Services for Mildred Vernette Farrar (74) will be held at First Baptist Church in Bernice, Louisiana on Wednesday, December 20th at 10:00am with Bro. Michael McIntosh officiating along with Bro. Carol Holmes and Bro. Philip Farris. Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 19th at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston, Louisiana from 5:00-7:00 pm. Burial will be at Union Grove Cemetery in Lillie, Louisiana under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston.Vernette was born on February 18, 1943 and left this world to join her heavenly father on Sunday, December 17, 2017. She was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana to Homer J. Pennington and Mildred Christine Ward Pennington. She was a graduate of Minden High School class of 1961. She married her husband, Russell Allen Farrar Sr., on October 17, 1969, and they were married for 48 years. They made their home in Lillie, Louisiana for nearly 40 years. They decided to move to West Monroe, Louisiana to be near their children where they lived for 8 years. She is survived by her husband and their 4 children: Paula Farrar (Partner Jeff Duhon), Heather Farrar Strang (Husband Scott), Melanie Farrar Thornhill, and Russell (Rusty) Allen Farrar Jr. (Wife Tressa). They have 8 grandchildren: Rachael Treadway, Kinsley Treadway, Vivien Strang, Ashley Patton, Landon Patton, Molly Thornhill, Gracyn Farrar and Ian Stutzman. They have one grandchild that they never got to meet, but we are sure she is holding him in heaven now: Ayden Russell Farrar. She had several jobs over the years. She was a homemaker, bank teller, and a clerk. Her longest employment was with Louisiana Tech University, where she worked for approximately 25 years as a secretary. She started off working in the nursing department, then the Counseling Center and finally worked her way up to being the Dean Administrative Assistant in the College of Business. She was very good at her job and they even wanted her to come back after she retired. She made many wonderful friends at Tech and those friends called and came to visit her while she was ill.She was by far the best mother you could want! She only wanted the best for her family. She encouraged all her children to go to college so they would not struggle in life. She loved her husband and was known to say, He is a sweet soul and I love him dearly. She was a Christian and member of Fairpark Baptist Church in West Monroe, Louisiana. She loved the Lord and knew the way to heaven was through her savior Jesus Christ. She was the best cook and if you never had the pleasure of sitting at her table at Thanksgiving or New Year, you truly missed out on the best meal you could ever eat. She loved to be out in the yard working and watched HGTV and the Food Network channel often. She is preceded in death by Homer J. Pennington (Father), Mildred Christine Ward Pennington (Mother), Homer J. Pennington Jr. (Infant brother), and Ayden Russell Farrar (Infant grandson).Special thanks to all the friends and family who called, visited, sent cards/food and prayed for her and her family. Thank you to Sharon Baptist Church, Homer Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Bernice and Fairpark Baptist Church.
