Mildred Mall Dickson was born November 3, 1913 to Joe Elmore Mall and Leona Driggers Mall in the Wesley Chapel community of southern Lincoln Parish. She passed away May 31, 2016 at the age of 102. She attended grammar school at the two room school house in the Wesley Chapel community. After fifth grade, she moved to Ruston to live with relatives until graduating from Ruston High School. She then enrolled in Louisiana Tech University and pursued a degree in Math. She graduated with her Bachelor Degree in 1935. After teaching math for one year in Hico, Mildred moved to Shreveport, where she worked for ten years in the business department at what was then the Tri-State Hospital (now Willis-Knighton Hospital). It was during those years that she met and married her late husband, Barnette Larry Dickson. After Larry served overseas during WWII, the couple moved back home to live on her family land where Mildred was born and raised. At this time, Mildred found employment at what was then the TB hospital. Soon after, they began starting their family. In 1955, Mildred was hired at Louisiana Tech University, where she served as Director of Purchasing until her retirement in 1980. She always spoke of her time in Shreveport with fond memories of the friendships she made with her co-workers, who like her, bonded closely while their husbands were overseas serving our country. She also remembered enjoying her many years at Louisiana Tech. After retirement, Mildred spent many years traveling through Europe, Canada, Mexico, and the United States. Many of these travels were with the groups she would join through Trinity United Methodist Church. She always loved to go different places and see what there was to see throughout the world. Though later in life it was not possible for her to attend church services, Mildred was a lifelong member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Ruston where she played an active and vital role in the life of the church, its members, and the community.Mildred was an avid quilter. She made all of her and her daughters clothes while they were at home. She spent many hours crocheting. She spent many hours gardening and canning. A true Proverbs 31 woman. She loved fishing, reading, and traveling. Our family and others had many occasions at her home having fish fries, barbecues, reunions, and simple get together dinners.Mildred Dickson lived a full, long life, surrounded by her daughters, her grandchildren, and later years, her great-grandchildren. She invested her entire life serving her entire family, her church, her community, and her Lord; and although most of her contemporaries have passed on before her, she leaves her legacy in each of us, her children, and how dear a legacy it is. Mamaw, we love you and you will be dearly missed.Mildred is preceded in death by her husband, Barnette Larry Dickson; her parents, Joe and Leona Driggers Mall; her siblings; Lessie Mall Anderson, Irene Mall Jones, Edwin Mall, and Carolyn Mall Keshlear; her son in law, Gary Boone; and her great-great granddaughter, Avery Anna Green. She is survived by her daughters: Jane Dickson Boone, Martha Dickson Kinman and husband, Bill, all of Ruston; her grandchildren: Michelle Boone Davis, Melanie Boone Peel, Melissa Boone Hughes, Jennifer Kinman Green, Bill Kinman, and Ben Kinman; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.Online condolences may be made to the family at www.kilpatrickfuneralhomes.com.
