Merry was born on November 29, 1956 in Kingman Arizona. She was a military brat and enjoyed all of the places she lived especially Woomera, Australia and Biloxi, Mississippi. After the family settled in Junction City, Merry became her daddy’s farm hand. She assisted in birthing calves and bottle feeding baby animals. Merry worked as a paralegal for many years in Monroe. She enjoyed being a part of juicy, high profile cases. She worked hard to give Rachel and Ashley everything they needed and wanted in life. In recent years, she enjoyed traveling to see the Yankees and spending time with Maddie and Hux. She was a diehard Yankee fan and even named her beloved shih tzu after shortstop Derek Jeter. Merry was preceded in death by her father Dale Hux; grandparents Woodrow and Sunshine Cater, and George and Rachel Hux.
Merry is survived by her husband Harry Courtman; daughters Rachel Balsamo and husband John, Ashley Smalling and husband Kaleb; mother Joan Hux; brother Brian Hux and wife Janet; grandchildren Maddie Claire Balsamo and Hux Mckenzy Smalling; step-children Elizabeth Parks and husband Chris, Emily Guntle and husband Jim; step-grandchildren Patrick and Luke Parks; aunt Glenda Ovitt; nephews Chay and Beau Hux.
