Mattie Davis Russell was born in Jonesboro, LA June 19, 1926 to Jessie E. Davis and Viola Walsworth Davis. She traveled from this life at 5:20 PM Sunday May 7, 2017. She graduated from Jonesboro High School in 1943 and in 1946 graduated as an RN from Shreveport Charity School of Nursing. In January 1947 she moved to Monroe, LA where she worked at what is now Conway Hospital. She met Johnnie F. Russell in Monroe and they married in August 1947. They were married for 61 years until his death in 2008.Mrs. Russell worked as a surgical nurse at Charity in Monroe. After Glenwood Hospital opened she moved and retired as the head nurse of the OB GYN floor in 1980. Mr. Russell and Robert Moore founded Russell-Moore Lumber in 1977. After her retirement she and Mr. Russell enjoyed traveling. They were members of Ouachita Baptist Church where they enjoyed friendship and fellowship. Mrs. Russell volunteered at Ouachita Council on Aging, was an accomplished painter and spent many happy hours reading, working in her yard and helping prepare meals at the church. She was preceded in death by her father, mother and husband and also six brothers and one sister.Mattie is survived by 2 sisters, Betty Bolls and Elaska Norred, both of Jonesboro, LA; 2 children, Daughter, Peggy Russell; son, Randy Russell and wife Ruth; 4 grandchildren, Brian Russell and wife Jenay, Jennifer Mazzanti, Joseph Mazzanti and Colt Amos; 4 great-grandchildren; Jacob Russell, Emily Russell, Coby Cragan and Vallon Ballard; 2 sisters-in-law, Alice Davis of Houston, TX, and Malinda Hilton of Baton Rouge, LA and many nieces and nephews.Pallbearers will be Kerry Thompson, Frederick Jackson, Elbert Chamber, Matt Mills, Waylon McCormick and Samuel Ross.Honorary pallbearers will Ronnie Albritton, Ray Anding Sr., Danny Keyes, MacArthur Brown.Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM, Wednesday, May 10, 2017 in the chapel of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe with Rev.
