Mary Sue Robinson Leonard, a long-time resident of the Ruston area, died Friday on the 19th of June, 2015.Born to Armintie Belle Sims Robinson and Willie Franklin Robinson in Sugar Creek, Claiborne Parish, on November 20, 1919, Mary Sue received her diploma from Athens High School in 1937. She then attended and graduated from Shreveport Charity School of Nursing in 1944 as a Registered Nurse.For 3 ≈í© years, Mary worked for International Paper Mill in Springfield, Louisiana as a Plant Nurse.In 1949, Mary moved to Ruston, Louisiana where she worked for Ruston Hospital, later renamed to Lincoln General, for over twenty-three years. She then worked at Lauren Glass Plant in Simsboro, Louisiana for twelve years.Mary Sue Robinson married J.A. Leonard of Sarepta, Louisiana on October 11, 1942. Mary and J.A. enjoyed a loving, beautiful, forty-four yearlong marriage until J.A. passing in 1986. Of Mary and J.A. union, two children born: her son Jimmy W. Leonard of Ruston, Louisiana and her daughter Carolyn S. Cristofalo of Mamaroneck, New York. Mary Sue later married O.D. Hollingsworth, enjoying a five-year long marriage until his passing.She was preceded in death by her four brothers and one sister, Ross, George, Raymond, Jack and Maurine.Mary Sue, lovingly referred to as Nana by her beloved grandchildren, is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Susie Leonard, her daughter, Carolyn Cristofalo, her grandchildren, Jason Leonard and his spouse Minyon, Jacob Leonard, Kourtney Lewis and her spouse Ray, Lamar Dowling and his spouse Courtney, Megan Smith, Mary-MalessaPetikas and her spouse Dimitrios, and Kyle Cristofalo, and her great grandchildren, Bryant Leonard and Christian Gilley, Ransom and Reese Lewis, Dimitrios and MaximosPetikas.For sixty years, since April 1, 1956, Mary has been a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church where she served as a dedicated member, holding several positions in the church including camp nurse several times.She was an active member of the Louisiana State Nursing Association and served on several committees. She served as President of the Ruston District Nurse Association along with holding several other officer positions throughout her membership.Mary was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star where she served as Grand Officer in State and Grand Sweetheart of State. She also served as Worthy Matron in her home chapter and as the District Deputy Grand Matron for District 3. She loved and enjoyed her time with the Order and was proud of her Magi 85 member number.She also enjoyed her community service and memberships within the Homemaker Club and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Mary Sue was well known by not only her loving family, but also the community at large for her sewing and cooking. She loved serving others, especially the elderly or sick, routinely aiding them by taking them to doctor visits or even to the beauty shop.Mary Sue Leonard was a giving soul, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother and neighbor that will be missed, remembered and loved by the many people she touched in the community.Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston, Louisiana has been entrusted with arrangements. Visitation will be held at Kilpatrick on Sunday, June 28 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., to be followed by the funeral at the same location at 3 p.m. Mary will be interred next to her beloved husband, J.A., at the Forest Lawn Cemetery.Serving as pallbearers: Jason Leonard, Kyle Cristofalo, Lamar Dowling, Ray Lewis, DimitriosPetikas, Sam Phillips, Tracy Pendergrass, and Jackie Robinson (honorary).
