Funeral services for Mary Ramona Potter Holton, 81, of West Monroe, LA will be held at 3:00pm Sunday, January 3, 2021 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in West Monroe, LA with Bro. Cecil Herrington, J.L. Williams and Dale Walker officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe, LA under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe, LA.
Visitation will be from 1:00pm until time of service at 3:00pm.
Mary was born on November 2, 1939 in Fort Necessity, LA and passed from this life on December 29, 2020. She started school in Fort Necessity LA and moved to Monroe in the mid 1950’s. She was a lionette at Ouachita Parish High School where she graduated in May 1958.
She was devoted to her family and her church. She served her Lord and Savior faithfully thru the years at Landmark Missionary Baptist Church, Bethel Baptist Church and finally at West Heights Missionary Baptist Church. She was usually seen in the kitchen working-especially during Vacation Bible School!! She served many cookies and cups of kool-aid. She worked the election polls for over 20 yrs at the King St Fire Station then at Lenwil School when the location moved.
Mary and Ray loved to travel. They were always getting in their camper and going “bluegrassing”. They loved to travel to bluegrass festivals to meet up with old friends and make new ones. Finding a local pancake breakfast was always a treat too. They also traveled from the Atlantic coast to the Pacific coast and from Mexico to Canada with Dean and Rita. One of their favorite places was the Smokey Mountains of Tennessee. You could just say let’s go and they were ready!!
Mary didn’t work outside the home but she did plenty at the house and for her
family’s business, Ray’s Upholstery Shop. She answered the phone, took packages, cooked for Ray and Rita and enjoyed going along for the ride on deliveries. She loved to go look at the many finished products Dennis could create. She always had a positive word or a sweet word of praise. For many years she sewed clothes for herself and Rita. She made several prom dresses and helped work on Rita’s wedding gown. She was very proud of her family, including her grand dogs, Little Man, Grover and Gracie. Little Man knew right where MawMaw kept the treats!
She is preceded in death by her parents William A and Leola Mae Shamblin Potter, Sr; brother, William A “Buddy” Potter, Jr; and 2 sisters, Madge Potter Wolfman and Camille Potter Mullican.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, William Ray Holton; son, Dennis Holton (Rhonda); daughter, Rita Holton Williamson (Dean); 2 grandsons, Dennis Ray Holton and Justin Holton and a host of other family and many friends.
Pallbearers will be Johnnie Ogden, Woodie Funderburk, Ricky Eads, Eric Holton,
Larry Gibson, Kenneth Howard, Dennis Ray Holton and Justin Holton
