Mary Elizabeth (Liz) Hurysz was born November 27, 1942, and after battling endometrial cancer for the last eight months died in the early afternoon on September 2, 2018 at the age of 75. She was joined at her bedside by her children. Services will be held in Rochester, NY Saturday September 8th at 10am with Paul W Harris Funeral Home, 570 Kings Highway S., Rochester, NY 14617. This will be followed by a procession to Holy Sepulchre Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her loving husband, Paul Stanley Hurysz, Sr. who died July 20, 2010. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making donations to The American Cancer Society or http://www.myasthenia.org/Liz was born in Rochester, NY to parents Charles and Lillian Thomas. Their only child grew up to be a consummate and dedicated educator. She attended James Monroe High School in Rochester and began her undergraduate studies at Translyvania University in Kentucky where she joined the sorority, Phi Mu later transferring to SUNY Brockport for her degree in Education. She would continue to teach and take post-bac classes throughout her life but, she first began teaching in the Rochester Public School System in the 1960's. After moving to Houston, TX in 1978 she went on to teach 4th grade at Stuchbery for twenty years before “officially” retiring. In 2003, she and her husband moved to Ruston, LA where she volunteered in the auxiliary at Ruston Hospital for 14 years helping the I.C.U. She also held season tickets for the Louisiana Tech Men's and Women's basketball teams “stay right on 'em!”. In 2005, she began teaching ELS at Tech campus where she also served on the textbook committee. While there she made friends from around the world.Liz is survived by her loving children, Kathy (Danny) Payne, Paul (Jill) Hurysz, Jr. Steven Hurysz, and Bryan Hurysz, grandchildren, Danielle and Ryan Payne, Kristopher, Matthew, Jacob, and Theresa Hurysz, Lilly Hurysz, brother-in-law Roger (Kathy) Hurysz, nieces Wendy (Terry) McCarthy, Rebecca (Chris Quinlan) Hurysz and Ruth (Greg Moore) Hurysz.
