Marvin Ramsey was born to Jeanette and Winston Ramsey on March 30, 1934, in Blacksburg, South Carolina.
He graduated from Blacksburg Centralized High School in 1952 and joined the U.S. Navy shortly after. He began bootcamp in San Diego, CA after graduating he attended Hospital Corpsman School in Bainbridge, MD and was stationed at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Quantico, VA. He also worked in the Dispensary Naval Gun Factory in Washington D.C. He finished out his time with the Navy on the U.S.S. Conecuh AOR 110, USS Olmstead APA R.A.D. Norfolk, VA. He was honorably discharged May 29, 1956.
In 1958 he moved to Monroe, LA where he made a home and celebrated 58 years in the car business. During this time he served as commissioner of the Louisiana Used Auto Commission. He also served as a commander of the American Legion where he was commissioned to light the eternal flame in front of the courthouse in Jonesboro, LA. In 1980 he became a Shriner at the El Karubah Temple. During this time he was a motorcyclist who rode in various local events including the circus and parades. He was also a Free Mason, in 1980 a Master Mason and in 1984 he became Worshipful Master. He was a Free Mason for 42 years.
He was a member of the Fair Park Baptist Church, where he not only attended services but also was a member of The Encouragers Sunday School Class. After giving his life to Christ he enjoyed sharing with others what God had done in his life.
He was an avid outdoorsman that enjoyed hunting and just being in the woods. He worked most of his life but was always sure to make time for family. He loved spending time with his Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren.
He went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 23, 2022.
He is preceded in death by his father Winston Ramsey; mother Jeanette Ramsey; and brothers Henry Ramsey and Olin “Pete” Ramsey. He is survived by his wife Melba Ramsey; daughters Debbie Lou Davis, Susan Eng (Robert); sons Darrell Ramsey, Kevin Moore (Sharon) and Keith Moore (Angela). Grandchildren Lee White, Tina Owens (Jesse), Daniel Moore, Heather Sherrill (Tracy), MiKayla Slabaugh (Dalton), Crystal Hendrix and Tina Ronquille; brother Ralph (Bud) Ramsey; numerous great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers: Kevin Moore, Keith Moore, Jesse Owens, Dalton Slabaugh, Seth Jackson, Daniel Moore.
Honorary Pallbearers: Sunday School Class (Encouragers Class) and longtime friend Willie Desadier.
Visitation will be held at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in West Monroe Wednesday, January 26, 2022 from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm.
Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Fair Park Baptist Church with Bro. Waymond Warren officiating. Interment will follow at Kilpatrick’s Serenity Gardens.
