Marjorie “Marty” Beatty Mitchell August 25, 1921-November 18, 2012 Kilpatrick Funeral Home Ruston, LA Funeral service for Marjorie “Marty” Beatty Mitchell of Ruston will be held at 11:00AM, Saturday, November 24, 2012 in Burkhalter Chapel at Trinity Methodist Church in Ruston. Officiating the service will be Rev. Brian Mercer and Rev. Rolly Walker. Interment will follow at Greenwood cemetery under the direction of the Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston. Marjorie Beatty Mitchell died on Sunday, November 18, 2012 at the age of 91 years. Mrs. Mitchell was born in Cortland, Indiana on August 25, 1921 to Nancy Bottorff Beatty and Alfred Ernest Beatty. She grew up in Lewisville, Arkansas and lived in Ruston for the rest of her life. She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Henry Everett Mitchell and two sisters, Hilda husband: Jack and Eileen husband: EdWynn and two brothers, John Morton wife: Helen and Ernest. Young “Margie” played the piano, played tennis and basketball and enjoyed school. She used to tease that she was third in her class…of thirteen at Lewisville High School. Her life-long best friend was Ruby Mae Colton. After two quick years at State A&M College in Magnolia 1940-41, Margie entered the working world in Shreveport. In 1947, after the war, she went to work at the VA and met “handsome Hank Mitchell”, the love of her life. Marty and Hank married 1950 and had Kim and Kathy. Their life was filled with babies, family, friends, their church and lots of love. Ruston became their hometown. They moved to University Boulevard in 1962 and never wanted to live anywhere else. As Kim and Kathy went to school, Marty went back to work and her tenure at La. Tech began. From 1962 until 1989, she served the Dean, teachers, professors and students in the College of Arts and Sciences. She and Hank were big Tech fans. Marty was very proud of the fact that Hank, Mike and Kathy, Kim and Deana, Elizabeth and Ross all are Tech grads. Trinity Methodist Church was so important to the Mitchell family. Marty loved her Trinity Life Group, Lydia Circle, Sunday school class and studying the Word of God. Doug McGuire, Rolly Walker, and Tom Judd taught wonderful lessons and made such an impact on her life. She and Hank would take an angel food cake to those they knew who were homebound or sick. The Holy Spirit was Companion, Comforter and special Friend to Marty in the years she spent on the earth without her beloved Hank, Marty loved music particularly hymns, beautiful things, any flowers in bloom, a list of things to do or remember, a balanced bank statement, a sale at Talbots. Her life was characterized by steady faithfulness and joy that permeated all she did. She was energetic, worked hard and met challenges as they came “Aunt Marty” was so grateful for her nieces and nephews. She loved them dearly. In later years, she was overheard telling someone that Jackie was one of her children. She had a twinkle in her eye when she said it. “Mamaw” was so proud of her four grandchildren and their spouses. She took endless numbers of pictures of them and she and Papaw prayed for them daily at the breakfast table. The four great-grandchildren will benefit from her example and faithfulness. Survivors include: Son, Kim Everett Mitchell Deana of Shreveport; Daughter, Kathy Mitchell Rainwater Mike of Little Rock. Grandchildren are: Elizabeth Mitchell Taylor and husband, Ross of Houston; John Michael Rainwater and wife Sarah of Little Rock; David Mitchell Rainwater and wife, Rachel of Kansas City; and Benjamin Harris Rainwater of Dallas. Great grandchildren are: Jackson Dean Taylor and Audrey McKenzie Taylor, Shepherd Michael Rainwater and Abigail Jane Rainwater.
