Margaret Virginia “Polly” Mizell Weeks, age 90, passed away on April 30, 2024, in Monroe, Louisiana. Born in Scotland, Arkansas to Jessie and Ella Mizell in December 1933. Polly was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and pillar of her community. Polly’s life was a testament to the values of love, hard work, and faith. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her, but her memory will continue to inspire and uplift those who carry it in their hearts.
A memorial service to celebrate Polly’s life will be held at Kilpatrick Serenity Gardens in West Monroe, LA, where all family and friends are invited to honor her legacy and share cherished memories. The service will commence at 10:00AM on Friday, May 3, 2024, under the care and direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Homes, West Monroe. Reverend William Smith will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lakeshore Baptist Church in Polly’s memory.
Polly’s early years were marked by her love for sports, notably as a guard on the ladies basketball team at Scotland High School. In 1952, she embarked on a 71 year journey of love and companionship when she married Wallace Weeks. Together, they built a life filled with warmth, love, and shared dreams.
Professionally, Polly was a skilled seamstress with a passion for fashion. For over four decades, she poured her talent into her work, designing and crafting exquisite pageant gowns and altering clothes for many of Monroe’s esteemed retail stores. Her meticulous craftsmanship and dedication to her craft earned her the respect and admiration of all who knew her.
Beyond her professional pursuits, Polly was a devout member of Lakeshore Baptist Church, where her faith and kindness touched the lives of many. Her unwavering commitment to her church community was a testament to her compassionate spirit and generous heart.
Polly’s legacy of love extends to her family, who meant everything to her. She is survived by her loving husband, Wallace Weeks, and their two children, Warren Weeks and his wife Lou Ann of Orlando, FL, and Peggy Powell and her husband Ron Powell of Monroe, LA. Her memory will forever be cherished by her grandchildren: Angel Hubbard and husband Mark, Anthony Powell and wife Kelly, Ginger Gilbert and husband Darren, Heather Curry and husband Lee, Brooke Weeks, Christopher Bronson, and Mallory Stokes and husband Courtney, along with 20 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
