Margaret Johnston Fortenberry, age 87, died in her home in Eros, LA on October 8, 2020. She was a graduate of Clinton High School in Clinton, MS. She went on to continue her education at Hinds Community College in Raymond, MS. Throughout her time at Hinds she was a member of the basketball and tennis teams. It was during this time that she met and later married Benton Fortenberry. After marriage she attended Mississippi College in Clinton, MS where she earned her bachelor’s degree in education. Because of her love of education and learning, later in her life she returned to school and received her Master’s in Education from the University of Louisiana in Monroe, LA. Mrs. Fortenberry was a devoted teacher and a well-known coach of basketball and tennis. She touched the lives of all of her students and athletes she coached. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Benton Fortenberry, her sister, Patsy Johnston and her brother Joseph Johnston.
She is survived by her daughters, Angel Horn (Tommy) of Tallulah, LA, Ellen Storey (Drew) of St. Joesph, LA, JoAnne Fortenberry of Eros, LA, Leigh Fortenberry of Eros, LA, Connie DeVille (Mikel) of Eros, LA and Benita Lovell (Charlie) of Transylvania, LA. She is survived by her grandchildren, Matt Horn (Jackie), Chris Bamburg (Traci), Leo Vyvial (Lauren), Allison Horn, Jessica Dispenza (Joel) Joe Bamburg (Kayla), Hunter DeVille (Starr), Ben Lovell, Carlie Lovell, and Dustin Deville. As well as her great-grandchildren, Ana Liyah Robinson, Landen Vyvial, Logan Bamburg, Brylyn DeVille, Alice Horn, Jaycee Dispenza, Mary Margaret Bamburg, Bowen Deville, Gwen Bamburg. She is also survived by her siblings, William Johnston, Sandra Bonom, Kathy Davis and James Johnston, many nieces and nephews, as well as many friends.
Memorial services will take place at a later date for immediate family.
