She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Alton Hardy Howard on October 29, 2006, her parents Ben and Willie Meador, her sister, Carolyn Ragland, and her brothers, Clyde and Bud. She leaves a legacy of love behind with her sister, Dorothy Carter; her son, John Howard and his wife Chrys; daughters, Mary Howard Owen and her husband Mac and Janice Howard Owen and her husband David; her grandchildren: Korie Robertson and her husband Willie, Ryan Howard, Ashley Nelson and her husband Jay, Heath Arthur and his wife Carmen, Cherry Hudnall and her husband Josh, Callie Washer and her husband Jacob, Jenna Tyner and her husband Drew, John-David Owen and his wife Alyson and twenty-three great-grandchildren: Rebecca, John Luke, Sadie, Will, Bella, Macy, Ally, Maddox, Asa, Aslyn, Aevin, Caroline, Gannon, Anna Kate, Jett, Owen, Rex, Solomon, Silar, Sayla-Jewell, Summit, Stella and Kenzie. Jean was an active member of the White's Ferry Road Church of Christ. Everyone who knew her thought of her as a quiet servant for God and a prayer warrior. Jean was always ready with a homemade pound cake in hand to visit people in nursing homes and share scripture with them. Many of you who are reading this were probably recruited at one time to go with her. Each of her grandchildren had the honor of joining her and sharing her love and joy to others. Jean was the queen of “Sunday Dinners” where pot roast, rice and gravy, purple hull peas, rolls and sweet tea were standard fare. If you were new to White's Ferry Road Church, you could be sure you would get an invite to her home. She never had a harsh word to say about anybody. She was always ready to encourage anyone, especially if they were at a low period in their life. She never wanted to miss Celebrate Recovery or Heart to Home ministries. She will be remembered by her “Forever Family” as a faithful servant of God and an amazingly loyal wife, mother and mamaw to her family. Jean and Alton worked side by side in this life for 57 years. Their life and legacy will live on in the many great works they began. Pallbearers will be Heath Arthur, Ryan Howard, Josh Hudnall, John-David Owen, Drew Tyner, Joe Owen, Willie Robertson. Honorary pallbearers are Charles Bozeman, Jimmy Davis, Lloyd Williams, Tommy Powell, Randy Stinson, and the White's Ferry Road Elders. The family wants to say a special thanks to Judy Kilcrease for loving and caring for our mother daily for the past 6 years.
