Funeral services for Mrs. Lula Day, 95, of West Monroe, will be held in the chapel of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in West Monroe at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, March 1, 2025. Pastor James Gardner will officiate. Interment will follow at Acree Cemetary in Point, Louisiana. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Day was born in Point, Louisiana on August 29, 1929. She was preceded in death by her husband C.W. Day; granddaughter, Amanda Nicole Day; parents, Ford and Docia Bayles; sisters, Geraldine Young, Dorothy Wooley; brother, Henry Bayles; daughter-in-law, Vicki Day; and grand daughter-in-law, Charlene Day.
After starting her family, Lula returned to school and received her BA and Masters degrees in education plus 30 additional college credits focusing on special education from Northeast Louisiana College in Monroe Louisiana. She began her career in teaching at Riser Elementary School and then special education programs until she retired. After retirement, Lula was not ready to slow down, so she was employed at McClendon Baptist Church for many years serving in the capacity of church secretary, secretary to the pastor and working for the church’s music director. She loved singing in the McClendon choir. While she was active, she loved visiting members in Nursing Homes and teaching Sunday school. Lula was a dedicated servant of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Mrs. Day loved her church and family. She was so proud of her grandchildren and was always ready to assist them when they needed her. She is survived by her sister, Shirley Godwin and husband Laymon; sons, Charles Day, Philip Day and wife Jolene; daughter-in-law, Laura Harmon and husband Dave; grandchildren, Alissa Hutchinson and husband Mike, Melinda Estrada and husband Arthur, Jeremy Day, Catherine Day-Schneckloth and husband Jeremy,
Kim ODonnell, (former son-in-law, Aaron ODonnell), Brian Day and wife Crystal; great- grandchildren, Destinie Estrada and husband Julian, Faith Brown and husband Micah, Alexander Day, Landon Day, Justin Day, Christopher Day, Annabelle Day, Wolfgang Schneckloth, Quinn Schneckloth, Deanna Day, Delilah Day; great- great- grandchildren, Violet Rocha, Caspian Brown; niece, Lavenia Young Otwell; nephew, John Day and wife Lillian; and other cherished family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Brian Day, Todd Coble, Clyde Self, Ron Barfield, Wayne Cranford, Joe Hall.
