Louise Thurmon, a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away surrounded by the love of her family. Her life was a beautiful testament to faith, service, and the joy she found in children.
Louise’s love for her husband, Donald, and her children was the center of her world, but her heart had room for many more. She had a unique ability to deeply and positively impact anyone she met. Louise had a special place in her heart for all children, not just her own. Whether working in children’s ministry, driving a school bus, or transporting children to church in the church van, Louise treated every child as if they were hers. The kids on her bus route and those she picked up for Sunday services became like extended family, each touched by her kindness and care.
A long-time member of Fairbanks Baptist Church, Louise ensured her children were always in church, modeling a life grounded in faith and love. She later cherished her time and fellowship in her Sunday School class at North Monroe Baptist Church and joyfully sang in the church choir, lifting her voice in praise and celebration.
Louise also had a zest for life—she loved to shop and never missed a chance to stay active and exercise. She loved people, loved to laugh, and always had a smile or encouraging word to share. Her vibrant spirit and generous heart will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Louise is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Donald Thurmon; children, Mary Skelton and husband Les, Wayne Thurmon and wife Teresa, Billy Thurmon and wife Vickie, Patricia Ellerman and husband Jay; grandchildren, Caroline Barr, Ainsley Ingram (Stewart), Samuel Barr (Rashmi), Grayhm Skelton, Ashley Burroughs (Josh), Amanda Williams (McClendon), Samantha Paul (Cade), Jayden Ellerman, Anna Beth Ellerman and Tanner Ellerman; 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Judy Hughes and husband Chuck; brothers, Rives Lowrey and wife Carol, David Lowrey and wife Trina; brother-in-law, Lavelle Rambin; numerous nieces and nephews; along with extended family and friends.
Louise Thurmon’s legacy lives on in the lives she touched, especially the many children who felt her love and guidance along the way.
