Arriving on August 16, 1930, Lishie Belle Hoggatt was the eighth of ten children. Born to Wilton and Lishie Hoggatt, she remained in her hometown of Wisner, Louisiana until high school graduation. At the age of sixteen, she began her study of nursing at Charity Hospital School of Nursing in New Orleans, Louisiana.Shortly thereafter, deciding a smaller venue would be less overwhelming, she opted to leave New Orleans. She subsequently applied for admission to the school of nursing at St. Francis Hospital in Monroe, Louisiana. It was there, at the age of seventeen, that she met her husband of sixty-six years, Edward Cascio.Married September 1, 1951, she and her husband began their life together. Living in both Arkansas and Virginia, upon the Korean armistice, they returned to their hometown. Two children ensued and family life began. At times being the sole family support, Belle worked as a nurse for a total of eighteen years. Retiring at the age of thirty-eight, she devoted her time and efforts to her husband and family.Belle is predeceased by her parents, Lishie and Wilton Hoggatt, five brothers: Ted Hoggatt, Rodric Hoggatt, Wilton Hoggatt, Boyce Hoggatt and Samuel Hoggatt. She is also predeceased by two sisters: Nan Keener and Rene Mason.She is survived by her husband, Edward D. Cascio, one daughter, Elishia Cascio Boutwell, one son Rodric Cascio and her daughter-in-law, Sue Ellen C. Cascio. She is survived by five grandchildren, Ed Boutwell, Jessica Boutwell Baker, Rebecca Boutwell, Adam Cascio and Karen Cascio, as well as five great grandchildren. Surviving siblings include, Virgil Hoggatt and Raymond Hoggatt. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Geneva Cascio and Mrs. Dorothy C. Dixon, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.Serving as pallbearers are Ed Boutwell, Adam Cascio, Raymond Hoggatt, Jr., Samuel Hoggatt, Jr., Jack McCants, and Phillip Strickland.Honorary pallbearers include Ivy C. Brown, John C. McCants, and George Cummings, Jr.The family will extend special thanks to their caregivers, Mrs. Emma Cooper, Mrs. Teresa Ogumnuyiwa, LaTonya Lewis, Anquanic Jones and Kim Lewis.Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 7 P.M., Friday, August 31, 2018, at Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe. Officiated by Father Job Scaria, rosary will follow at 7 p.m.On their 67th wedding anniversary, September 1, 2018, at 2:00 P.M., services will be held at Jesus the Good Shepherd Church. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Homes of Monroe.
