Leslye Mount Puddy, 108, went to be with the Lord on March 15, 2012. She lived in Ruston for 98 years prior to moving to Florence, SC to live with her son, Dr. Robert Puddy, and daughter-in-law, Lynda. For the past four years, the family has resided in Peachtree City, Georgia. Mrs. Puddy was born in Ruston on February 24, 1904. She married Earl Puddy in 1937 and they were married for 52 years. During their years together Earl and Leslye traveled extensively across the United States and Europe. Leslye graduated from Louisiana Polytechnic Institute in 1925 with a Bachelor of Industry degree and in 1929 she received a BA in Commerce. During World War II Leslye served as secretary to the camp commander at the prisoner of war camp near Ruston. While living in Ruston, Mrs. Puddy was one of the founders of the Green Thumb Garden Club. She was also active in the Twilight Garden Club, the Camilla Society, and the Eastern Star. She attained the status of Master Garden Show Judge and frequently officiated at the Peach Festival flower shows. While living in Florence, SC she was a member of the Wild Rose Garden Club and at age 98, she became a member of the South Carolina chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was the state's oldest member. She has been a member of the Ruston First Baptist Church for over 90 years. Mrs Puddy is survived by her son Robert and daughter-in-law, Lynda, grandson Kevin and his wife Nikki Puddy, and grandson Brett Puddy, great-grandchildren Austin and Lauren Puddy. The funeral service will be held on Monday, March 19, 2012 at 11:00AM at Kilpatrick Funeral Home, Ruston with Dr. Chris Craig officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or the Billy Graham Foundation.
