Lawrence J. Danna, M.D. was a beloved, cherished, and dedicated son, brother, father, pappaw, friend, and doctor.

Born on July 27, 1942, in Monroe, Louisiana to Jerome and Angie Danna, Lawrence (Larry) Danna was one of ten brothers and sisters.

He graduated from Northeast Louisiana University with a Pharmacy degree and continued his education at LSU Medical School in New Orleans, LA.

Larry, known as “Doc” to many, practiced medicine for over 50 years, proudly serving the Monroe area since 1976. He truly loved the practice of medicine and always said it was his “honor and privilege” to care for his patients.

Dr. Danna was a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, the Louisiana State Medical Society, the Southern Medical Society, the American Medical Association, and a charter member of the Millennium Society.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Dr. Danna served his country as part of the United States Air Force Reserves.

Though he achieved so much in his life, he felt that his accomplishments didn’t compare to the true fulfillment he had for caring for his patients, friends, and family.

Dr. Danna lived to care for others—both in his professional life as an esteemed, respected doctor, and in his personal life.

He went above and beyond for every person he crossed paths with, and all who had the honor of knowing Larry knew him as a compassionate, humble, and one-of-a-kind man.

When he wasn’t working and tending to his patients, you could find Larry passing a good time at the river, listening to country music, cheering on the LSU Tigers or the New Orleans Saints, sharing his life stories and vast knowledge, and enjoying quality time with those he loved most.

Knowing him and loving him was a blessing. Larry’s kind nature, humor, immense generosity, brilliant mind, and vivacious spirit will always be remembered and leave a lasting impact on us all.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerome and Angie Danna, brothers Salvador Danna, Jerry Danna, and Vincent Danna, sisters Veronica Walker, Anita Trice, Cecil Buckley, and Pat Diffey, and his grandson Ezekiel Adams.

Larry is survived by his children Ellen Danna, Patrick Danna, and Mallory Danna Adams and son-in-law, Sonny Adams, his grandchildren Shelby Gussman, Shane Gussman, and Jordan Danna, his siblings, Susan Danna and Gregory Danna, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Sonny Adams, Jonathon Danna, Toby Danna and Paul Douglas.

Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Arbour, Joe Campo, James Davison, Bo Hardy, Dean Mailhes, Charles Marsala, Jack Rivers and Ronnie Woods.

Larry, Doc, Pappaw, Daddy – We love you and will carry you in our hearts forever.

Funeral services for Dr. Danna will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at Kilpatrick Funeral Home, West Monroe. Entombment will follow at Kilpatrick’s Serenity Gardens Mausoleum under the care and direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Homes, West Monroe. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Monday, November 4, 2024, at Kilpatrick Funeral Home, West Monroe.

Larry Danna was a good friend! He brought so much love, care and blessings to our life. We will never forget him!

You removed my daughter’s tonsils and she had a medical emergency during recovery due to her thin blood. Instead of sending us to the ER, you had us come into your office later than 5pm on an weekend and you treated her there. It was terrifying and you handled the situation with grace. Not just for her but, for us worried for her. You were an amazing Dr. You made a difference here. You treated generations of people. Condolences to your family.

Dr. Dana has been my doctor for 30 plus years. He did surgery on me and my brother. During a time, when I was having lots of pain, he kept doctoring on me until he got the problem solved. He was an exceptional doctor and a marvelous caring person, and these are the qualities that made him so dear to our hearts. My family and I will miss him. My heart is broken..Dr.Danna was my doctor he removed my tonsils in 2022.he also did surgery for my Dad in the late 80’s…just seen him 2 weeks ago and will always be grateful to him for time and care he had for me and my Dad..Will miss him dearly…Sending prayers to his family and staff..R.I.P. Dr Danna wasn't just our doctor he was a beloved family friend. He began taking care of us as children in the 1970s, and ended up taking care of us as adults. He took care of both of our parents too, as they would see no one else. He was intelligent and kind. He always knew what to do to get each of us well, no matter the issue. We love you Dr. Danna. May you rest in peace. Prayers for your family. The world is not the same without you. The Jimmie Morris Family, Jimmie, Linda, Lisa, Dana and Jay.

Larry was one of the sweetest and kindest people I have ever known. He took care of me and my family. I have lost one of my best friends by his passing. God's promise to me is I will see you again my friend.

My children are in their 40s and 50s now. Dr. Danna was their doctor. We waited in his waiting room, along with MANY others, for hours restling with crying children. just to see him because he was the best. Then, when you got to a room, he was always patient and kind, never trying to rush you out until all of your concerns were met. What alegacy for your family.

He was my children's Dr. For many years. First time I brought my oldest son to him 41 years ago, he hugged him up and said you look like one of my kids! We loved him and he will be greatly missed! Our prayers are with your family.

God broke the mold after he made Dr. D. He was one of a kind! His patients meant so much to him. He gave me his pager number and said, you call me if you need me after taking 150 pollops out if my husband's sinuses. I will never forget his smiling face coming out of surgery with a little plastic container to show me those pollops. Yuck! He had never removed so many. While we were at the hospital, he had a steak supper delivered to us - baked potato and all! He told stories of his sweet Mallory. I remember him telling me how he would get up at night and fill her juice cup when she was little. She had to have her juice and he would have given her the moon. You all know, about the pictures he had all over the walls of his clinic - I think every child he ever treated was on those walls. He would always show us Mallory's newest picture. We all sat for hours in his office. We would pack the diaper bag with snacks and wait cause we knew he could make everything better!! On Sunday visits in the office, he would sometimes have us meet him at the back door. Would say he was going to get in trouble from his wife if he was late for church but he was always there for us. I don't think he knew how to be still and rest - always wanting to help others. We will miss him greatly and our hearts go out to the Danna family in your great loss. Dr. Danna was so special to our family. My daughter went to see him last week and he was asking about our family as we recently lost my husband. I would ask him when he would retire, and he said he couldn't there was so many sick people. His passion was helping others. He knew your family and their names and kept up with what was going on and always asked about them. He would talk about his daughter and how blessed he was. We will continue to pray for all of his family .

Well Doc , we know , as you now walk with the Lord to bring joy and cheer and a great medical mind to Heaven , that everyone there has just met their Best Friend, Best doctor, and they have never laughed as much in a while…..but know we love you, your great staff (that took care of us for those many years with such great attitudes and kindness), and a great family which you talked about every visit….we will miss you dearly and will see you on the other side , our very special friend….much love and sympathy to the Danna family and staff. We have lost a valuable doctor & a special person in our community. He has been here for many years. My children(grown) & I have had Dr Danna help us all. He had the best personality & bedside matter a doctor could have. He was an awesome doctor & he will be missed. One time I could have died(due to a drug reaction), he took one look from the hallway of his office & told my husband I had a bad reaction to medication- go to ER. I have to say that was about 37 years ago & I am still here thanks to him. Will never forget him. Our community needed Dr.Danna in more ways than just an ENT. He became a friend to all. Heartbroken of the news in the loss of such a special person, Dr. Danna. His patients' wellbeing was upmost in his care of everyone. It was a privilege for our family to have him take care of us.
