Funeral services for Laverne Wheelis will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at First Baptist Church in Chatham. Brother Craig James and Brother Tim Atkins will officiate. Interment will follow at Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, October 22, 2024.

Services are under the care and direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in West Monroe.

Laverne was born on August 9, 1937 in Chatham and passed away on October 19, 2024 in West Monroe. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. O. Elvis Wheelis; and parents, Edith McCorkle Cox and James A. Cox.

Laverne is survived by her son, Mike Wheelis (Glenda); daughter, Judy Russell; brother-in-law, Dale Wheelis; grandchildren, Jonathan Wheelis (Cami), Nicholas Wheelis (Yomaira), Adam Batson (Sumer), Megan Batson; 6 great-grandchildren; and many other cherished family and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff of Glenwood ICU, the West Monroe Guest House and Ascend Hospice for their loving care they showed mom.
