Services for Mr. Larry Max Ellerman will be held Friday, December 13, 2024 at 2:00 PM at North Monroe Baptist Church. The services will be officiated by Reverend Warren Eckhardt of North Monroe Baptist Church and Dr. Alan Miller of Alto Baptist Church. Visitation will be held from 12 PM until service time. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Winnsboro, Louisiana. All services are under the care and direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Homes, Monroe.
Larry was born April 30, 1941, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the late Edward and Ernestine Ellerman. He left this earth and entered heaven’s gates on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at his home in Monroe. Larry was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam Conflict. After earning a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice, Larry had an outstanding career in law enforcement-serving 10 years on the City of Monroe Police Department and 34 years as the Police Chief of the University of Louisiana/Monroe Police Department. He was a member of the Louisiana Association of Chiefs of Police.
Larry was an avid fisherman, and built his own rods and painted his own baits.
Southern Gospel music was a favorite of Larry and he often used his talent for singing in groups such as “Sounds of Praise” and “Brothers in Christ” quartets and served as Minister of Music at numerous churches (Temple Baptist-Monroe, Mer Rouge Baptist and Fairbanks Baptist). At the time of his death, Larry was a member of North Monroe Baptist Church.
Those who preceded him in death include parents; brothers, Jodie Ellerman, Ronnie Ellerman, and Jan Eugene Ellerman; sisters, Wydell Meredith, Joanne French, and Betty Ellerman.
Family left behind to mourn the loss of Larry are his wife of 62 years, Claudine Ellerman; son, Jay Ellerman and wife Patty, of Monroe, and their children, Jayden Ellerman, Anna Beth Ellerman and Tanner Ellerman; son, Jeff Ellerman and wife Sherri, of Monroe, and their children, Madison Fontana (Nick), Patrick Ellerman and Carter Ellerman; son, Jerry Ellerman and his wife, Danielle, of Cumming, Georgia, and their children, Caiden Ellerman and Bailee Ellerman. In addition, there are 3 great-grandchildren that Larry enjoyed and loved. Larry’s sisters, Sue Cupit of West Monroe, Brenda Kemp (Don) of Winnsboro, Louisiana, Emma Boozman (John), of Birmingham, Alabama, Rhonda Guidroz (Richard), of Natchitoches, Louisiana, Mary Weeks, of Birmingham, Alabama, also grieve over Larry’s death as do his brother-in-law, Luther French and his sister-in-law, Walterine Ellerman.
Pallbearers will be Roy Davis, Nick Fontana, Tim Sherman and Steve Traxler, as well as grandsons, Patrick Ellerman, Carter Ellerman, Caiden Ellerman, Tanner Ellerman. Nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers.
