A Celebration of Life will be held for Mr. Kenneth Clifton Calk’s family from 11:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in West Monroe. A memorial service will be held at a later date at New Chapel Hill Cemetery in West Monroe.
Kenneth Clifton Calk, 79, was a beloved husband of Brenda Bayles Calk for 42 years. He was born on February 5, 1943 in Monroe, Louisiana to Ivan Lu Calk and Warreen Fitler Calk. Kenneth passed away after an extended illness on November 17, 2022 while living at home with his wife in West Monroe. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Judy Ruth Calk Goldstein; and youngest son, Eugene Calk.
Kenneth attended Ouachita and Neville High Schools in Monroe, Louisiana. Just out of high school, from 1960 – 1964, he served in the United States Air Force in the South Pacific. He returned to Louisiana and attended Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe, Louisiana. Kenneth was a natural salesman who eventually began working for his father at the family business, “The Calk Company, Inc.” of West Monroe, LA. He later co-owned the business with his wife Brenda, where he diligently worked until the closing of the business in 2017. Fishing was a passion of his and he looked forward to his weekend getaways to the family camp on Lake D’Arbonne in Farmerville, LA that he and Brenda established after their marriage in 1980. Ken and Brenda were instrumental in starting and nurturing a Single Adult ministry at First Baptist Church in West Monroe, LA in the early 1980’s.
He leaves behind his wife Brenda Bayles Calk of West Monroe, LA; son, Jeffrey Calk of CA; daughter Cindy Calk Steier of New York; step-children Cynthia Place and son-in-law Tim Place of West Monroe, LA, and Angela Chapman of Seattle, WA; three grandsons, Jacob Steier, Navy recruit in Chicago, IL, Joshua Steier of Arlington, VA, and Zachary Steier of Middletown, NY; four step-grandchildren, Devin Chapman of Seattle, WA; Casey Johnson and wife Harper of Lafayette, LA; Annelise Keiser and her husband Nathan of West Monroe, LA; Chynna Chapman of West Monroe, LA; two step-great grandchildren, Riley Provost and Sterling Johnson; and his dog, Sandy.
