Theressa ONeal left a message on January 22, 2025:
Karma Jean was a descendant of one of the founding families of the Dean community. She was born on the hill they called the 40. She always said she would die there too. Although she had was diagnosed at an early age with a disability, it didn’t stop her from doing what she wanted or felt she could do. After losing her husband she turned her self to sitting with those that found themselves in hospice. She was always diligent at calling and checking on the community and always there to lend a hand. In return the community was always there to help her too. I came to know her when I married her son. I was left there just in my teens to care for her while the men were off working. We were always in close proximity. She became my other mother. She was very dedicated to lineage and family and could tell you who was who and whose kid was who. She loved to play gin rummy and was very good at holding till the last minute. She loved plants and was great at keeping them alive. She taught me canning and cooking and her recipes she made from scratch. She was a pillar. She will be missed dearly and has been missed for the past year and a half. Rest in peace for your days of work are done. Love you always.
