Memorial services for Johnny Carl Parkerson will be held at 10am, Saturday, November 16, 2013 in the chapel of Kilpatrick Funeral Home, West Monroe, LA. Rev. Warren Eckhardt will officiate. The family will receive visitors on Friday, November 15, 2013 from 5pm to 7pm at Kilpatrick Funeral Home, West Monroe, LA. Johnny Carl was born November 18, 1932 in Rocky Mount, LA and passed away on November 11, 2013 in Monroe, LA after a brief illness. Johnny Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Luther Franklin Parkerson and Hattie Campbell Parkerson, and his cherished Betty Tucker. Also preceding were brothers Frank Henry Parkerson, Luther Martin Parkerson, James Woodrow Parkerson, and Eugene Campbell Parkerson. He is survived by his sister, Mary Katherine Parkerson and her husband George McCully; daughter Terry Parkerson, and three sons, Carl Parkerson and his wife DeWanna Parkerson, Stuart Parkerson and his wife Melissa Parkerson, and Gary Parkerson; grandchildren Logan Parkerson, Rachel Parkerson, and Jessica Grigsby; and great grandchildren Gabriella Grigsby and Jensen Grigsby. Johnny Carl was a US Army veteran. He was a graduate of Northeast Louisiana University where he served as Student Body President his senior year and was a graduate of LSU Law School where he served as Managing Editor of the Louisiana Law Review and graduated at the top of his class in 1960. Following law school, he clerked for the Louisiana Supreme Court, after which he began practicing law in Monroe, LA where he was quickly recognized as one of the top legal minds and strategists in the area. He served as District Attorney of Ouachita and Morehouse parishes for 13 years and became well known for his passionate service to the Northeast Louisiana community. The family would like to thank the staff of Avalon Place as well as the emergency room staff of St. Francis Hospital. The family would especially like to express its appreciation to Debra Young and Russell Banks for their friendship and care for Johnny Carl.
