John is survived by his beloved wife, Julie Pruitt; his children, Amy Wood (Clint); sons, John Pruitt (Margaret), and Ryan Pruitt; his grandchildren Cole Pruitt (Laurin), Catherine Pruitt Dunn (Riley), Drew Pruitt, Laura Jane Pruitt, Richard Pruitt, Will Wood, Mitchell Wood, and Julia Wood; his great grandchildren Olivia Cole Pruitt, Hudson Pruitt, and Beau Dunn. He was preceded in death by his mother, Una Hilyard Pruitt; his father, John Pruitt; and his brother, Jimmie Pruitt.
John was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and, as his community knew him, an avid golfer. John was raised in western Oklahoma and Kansas, where he was introduced to golf by his uncle with whom he shared a close connection. Golf was his passion. He loved to play, he loved to teach, and he loved all those associated with the game. He was a member of the PGA of America and served in many capacities in the Louisiana section. He worked as a Pro at Bayou Desiard Country Club for 42 years where he built lifetime friendships. He then transitioned to managing the club for 8 years and retired to spend time with his children and grandchildren that he adored.
John loved serving at his church, Grace Episcopal, as Eucharistic minister and acolyte. He also volunteered with the Desiard Street Shelter and with the Meals on Wheels program for many years.
Memorials may be made in John’s memory to Grace Episcopal Church or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
