My first memory of John was when he gave me a blue and white "string top" at the house on Powell Street when I was about 8. John would work all night at the News Star and then drive to Rayville to work on Mother's car so she could get to work. All through high school John kept whatever car I had going. My senior year, he and Sylvia allowed me to drive their brand new 1965 Ford Galaxy 500 to a football game in Shreveport. John and I liked to hunt and spend time in the woods. John's work ethic and his willingness to help others made a big impression on a young boy who really needed his guidance and influence. I will alway love and appreciate "John Henry".

It is with a symphony of love, respect and our deepest condolences that we pray that God's Healing Hand would be upon the Prestridge Family during their time of tremendous loss with the passing of their Patriarch, John. It would be an understatement to say that he was merely loved and admired -- that much is true -- but this family's loss of such a remarkable man goes beyond those normal emotions. "Mr. John" was one of those quiet, behind-the-scene types of individuals, one who worked endlessly to ensure that his wife's daycare center ran smoothly and that the family's needs were met, too. When one considers the fact that John's 1st and only job for approximately 40 years was at The News-Star in Monroe, speaks well of an individual's commitment to hard work and family values. His generosity and unassuming nature made favorable impressions on those who were blessed to have been associated with him throughout the years. We pray that God will provide peace and comfort to the aching hearts of this beautiful family. Amen. Ü

Our hearts are sadden to hear of Mr. John's passing. We Amy & Matt Nolan, and myself were fortunate to have been a part of your daycare family many years ago. As we learned with Amy's passing the separation is only temporary and what a wonderful reunion we will all have one day.
Peace of mind is a call away. We're here when you need us most.

I was so sorry to read about John passing away. My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this time of need. I worked in the Circulation and Bookkeeping Dept. at the News-Star. He also had to pick and kid with me when I would go through the press room. Will miss him very much. Oneida
