Burial will follow in the Caney Lake Baptist Church Cemetery in Chatham, LA under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston, LA.Mr. Melder was born on September 7, 1959 and passed away on August 28, 2014 in Ruston, LA. He was a member of the Cook Baptist Church in Ruston, LA. He was employed by ENSCO Drilling Company and was an offshore Installation Manager where he received the Rig of the Year award in 2013.John was survived by his wife: Leasia Melder of Maurepas, LA; Son: Brandt Melder of Dodson, LA; Daughter: Jessica Liles of Jonesboro, LA; Son: Brian Melder of Maurepas, La; Niece: Shannon Sistrunk of Clinton, MS; Mother: Edna Mae Melder of Ruston, LA; Grandchildren: Camron Roberts and Joshua Roberts; Brothers: David Melder of Spring, TX, Paul Melder of Maurepas, LA; Sisters: Myra Hogan of Choudrant, LA, Deborah Roberts of Jonesboro, LA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other friends and family.Planned memorials may be made to the Cook Baptist Church Benevolence Fund.Pallbearers will be Charlie Hogan, Aubrey Hogan, Jacob Roberts, George Hammons, Daniel Bounds, and Chris Sistrunk.Visitation will be Saturday, August 30, 2014, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and Sunday from 1:00 PM till time of service at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston, LA.Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.kilpatrickfuneralhomes.com

John is loved around the world. People at home cannot image the positive influence this man had on everyone that worked with him. I knew John for only a few years and we worked as a team like very few others. We laughed and shouted, we were sad together and we had many happy times just as the flow of life provides. Again, John was beloved by so many people from all around the world from so many cultures and beliefs. He loved his wife with all that he was. We would sit quietly talking sometimes and he would express the depth of that love. John also would tell with great joyous excitement the humorus excapades of his grandsons. I can only say, John was a brother a friend to depth of his soul. Ensco Rig-96 was his family away from home and we are now back to the rig and so many people are very sad of his loss. John and his lovely wife just visited me last week at my home in S.W. Florida. I hadn't seen them in many years. We laughed and talked about the old times when we worked together offshore.
