John MacDonald Giffen was born December 6, 1956 in Monroe, LA and passed away surrounded by his family on October 23, 2021 in Monroe, LA after a brief illness.
John enjoyed watching football. He never missed an LSU game and was always chanting “WHO DAT!” on Sundays. In his younger years, John loved to duck hunt and fish. He enjoyed boiling seafood and hanging out with friends and family, especially his grandkids.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Jean and Don Giffen; and his grandson, Miller LaCour Wade.
John is survived by his daughters, Jennifer Giffen and Julie Giffen Wade and her husband Burton Wade III; grandson, Landry Wilder Wade; granddaughter, Olivia Marie Wade; the mother of his children, Toni Burroughs Giffen; sister, Amanda Giffen Fritzer; nephew, William Jeffrey Fritzer; and his faithful canine companion, Otis.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the amazing medical staff at the MICU at St. Francis Medical Center; especially his nurse Daniel Love who helped to provide a great deal of comfort in the final hours of John’s life. The family would also like to thank John’s doctors and lifelong friends, Dr. Mike Sampognaro and Dr. Greg Sampognaro.
Memorials may be made in John’s memory to the Jean and Don Giffen Memorial Scholarship Fund at The University of Louisiana at Monroe.
His family will hold a private graveside service at a later date.
