Funeral services for John Edwin Owens, 87, of West Monroe, LA will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at Cypress Baptist Church in West Monroe. Rev. Eubanks will be officiating. Interment will follow at Cypress Baptist Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe. John was born in West Monroe LA on March 3, 1926 and passed away on July 21, 2013 in West Monroe. John served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. Following his services, resided in West Monroe working at Riverwood International for 45 years until his retirement in 1993 without missing a day of work. John enjoyed the outdoors and fishing. Anyone driving past would immediately tell John's yard from another due to the meticulous care he took of his yard and gardens. John is preceded in death by his parents, Dan and Jettie Owens, sisters, Gertie Mitchell Green, Lela Head, Lorene Crawford and Gartha Waggoner; brothers, Dwight, Hilton, Ivan Dee and Guy Owens. John is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marti Phillips Owens; daughters Laurinda Karen Owens and Anita Gayle Owens and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Johnny Mitchell, W.D. Head, Morgan Crawford, Rabeon Owens, Reggie Owens and Stephen Owens. Honorary Pallbearers will be Lamar Owens and Dean McGrew . Visitation will be Tuesday, July 23, 2013 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe. The family would like to give a special thanks to the nurses and staff at Glenwood Regional Medical Center and Ridgecrest Nursing Home for their care.
