John E. Plunkett, age 86, of Choudrant, formerly of Sterlington, was born on April 16, 1931 in Epps, Louisiana. Memorial services for John will be at New Hope Baptist Church near Choudrant on Monday, April 9, 2018, at 2:00 P.M. Brother Dwayne Monk will officiate the service. Burial will be at New Hope Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston.Visitation will be prior to the service at 1:00 PM on Monday at New Hope Baptist Church.After graduating high school, John enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country in the Korean conflict. In retirement from IMC, he enjoyed driving the VA van to Shreveport one day a week. Community was important to him and John served on the Sterlington Town Council for eight years and was a 32nd degree Mason at the Robert W. Cretney Lodge. Tenderhearted John was a pied piper to all sorts of critters. He loved and nurtured each and every one.Preceding him in death were his wife, Maureen; parents, Johnnie and Eunie Plunkett; and brothers, Bennie and Homer. He is survived by daughter, Patti; brother, Morris and wife Betty of Shreveport; brother, Dobbin and wife Becky of Oak Grove; sister, Joan Smitherman and husband Roger of Farmerville; sisters-in-law, Vonnie Plunkett of Orange, TX and Laura Plunkett of Delhi; as well as, numerous nieces and nephews.Pallbearers will be: Adam Plunkett, Steve Plunkett, Woody Leggett, Ralph Hursh, Jerald Bartlett and Thomas Buzz Woods.Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.kilpatrickfuneralhomes.com
