John E. Pepper, known as Johnny, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2024, at the age of 87. Johnny was born in West Monroe, Louisiana, on September 23, 1936. His life was marked by dedication to his family and many years of hard work and service. Johnny served in the United States Navy in the aftermath of the Korean conflict. After training as an electrician during his service, he followed in his father’s footsteps to work for Entergy, where he had a long career and worked diligently for many years.
Johnny is survived by his beloved wife, Cindy, who stood by his side through all of life’s joys and challenges. He leaves behind his cherished children; daughter Elisabeth; sons John David (and wife Abby) and Samuel (and wife Shelbey). Johnny was a proud grandfather to Mabel James, who brought immense joy to him in his later years. He is also survived by his siblings; June Pepper Hebert and Joe Pepper (and wife Grace), as well as many nieces and nephews.
Johnny is preceded in death by his parents Joe Foster Pepper and Lula Hendrix Pepper; brother, Ronald Gene Pepper; and sister, Cherry Pepper Perry.
Johnny found great pleasure in working in his yard, spending time with his family, and telling stories of his experiences growing up, serving overseas, and working as a lineman. He loved to tell the story of the time, during his employment, when he touched 500,000 volts as part of a demonstration. He especially loved to talk about his children, and he took pride in their many accomplishments.
His family will remember him as a faithful provider and as a man with invaluable guidance and an irreplaceable sense of humor. Johnny’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He was a person who had a great deal of love to give, and it felt like an honor to have someone like him love you.
The family is honored to have as pallbearers Johnny’s nephews: Glen Pepper, Larry Hebert, Gary Hebert, Kent Perry, Jack Perry, Griffen Pepper, and Walt Pepper; and dear friend, Keldron Johnston.
