Funeral Services for Johnny E. Nolan, Sr. of Monroe, LA will be held at 1:30 P.M., Monday, March 13, 2017, at Louisiana Baptist Children Home Chapel, in Monroe with Dr. Perry Hancock officiating, assisted by Rev. William Earl Nolan. Interment will follow at Oak Ridge Baptist Cemetery, under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home, Lamy Lane, Monroe, LA.Johnny passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 10, 2017 after a brief battle with cancer.Johnny was born December 10, 1943 in Shreveport, LA. His early years were spent in Oil City where he enjoyed the close-knit community, friends and Caddo Lake. When his family moved to Shreveport, Johnny attended Hamilton Terrace Junior High and later graduated from Byrd High School where he was an outstanding athlete in both swimming and football. Johnny attended Northeast College on a football scholarship where he was a 17 year old defensive captain at linebacker. After a car wreck ended his football career, he attended Northwestern State.He attended North Monroe Baptist Church. Johnny was an avid deer hunter and always enjoyed the outdoors. He loved the Lord, and was devoted to his family and large extended family. Johnny was a loyal and caring friend, always ready to help in any way. He took great satisfaction in his work and enjoyed building his company.Johnny devotion, care and love will be greatly missed by his family and friends.Mr. Nolan was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Davis and Margaret Burton Nolan; paternal grandparents, Jesse Jones and Molly Stokes Nolan; and maternal grandparents, Elmer E. and Ollie Davis Burton.Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Susan Colley Nolan; children, John E. Nolan, Jr. (Angelia), and Justin Logan Nolan; grandchildren, Summer Nolan Dimattia (Adam), Abigail Moriah Nolan, and Joseph Ivey Nolan; great grandchildren, Emilie Nalon and Henry Dimattia; sister, Margaret Ann Nolan King; brother, Earl D. Nolan, Jr. (Patty); and numerous nieces and nephews.Pallbearers will be Brady King, David King, Bruce H. Weaver, Alton Allen, Aven Williamson, and Richard Moore.Honorary pallbearers will be James Buddy Maxwell, Larry McDonald, W. J. Erwin, and Gary Jones.Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Sunday, March 12, 2017 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home, Monroe, LA.Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children Hospital, Shriner Children Hospital, or Louisiana Baptist Children Home. .
