It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Dienes, a beloved father, grandfather, husband, and friend, who left us peacefully on June 17, 2025. Born December 11, 1941, John grew up in the small Louisiana towns of Mer Rouge and Newellton. John lived a life full of love, dedication, and remarkable achievements.
John was educated at Louisiana Tech University, where he met the love of his life, Sally Barham. They shared an enduring marriage of 61 years, filled with mutual respect, laughter and unwavering support.
His professional journey began in 1964 at Republic National Bank, where he embarked on a distinguished banking career that spanned over 50 years. John earned his MBA from SMU while working tirelessly, rising through the ranks with exceptional success. His career not only brought him personal fulfillment but also forged countless lifelong friendships. He was an active member of the Salesmanship Club of Dallas and the Dallas Country Club, where he continued to cultivate his network and passions. John also served on the Board of Payless Cashways, United Companies in Baton Rouge and the University of Dallas, further demonstrating his commitment to community and service.
John was a devoted grandfather, doting on his two grandsons, Jack and Patrick. He was a constant presence on the sidelines of their sporting events, cheering them on with pride and enthusiasm. An avid sports fan, John had a special place in his heart for his LSU Tigers and Dallas Cowboys. He adored golf, bird hunting, and annual family ski trips to Beaver Creek, embracing his love for the outdoors and the adventures it offered.
John especially enjoyed family weekends and holidays at his home at Hideaway Lake, where he loved grilling, fishing, and pulling the kids on skis. These cherished moments with family brought him immense joy and created unforgettable memories.
John was preceded in death by his loving grandparents, Kitty and Jeff Nolan, and his parents, Elliot and Joyce Dienes. He is survived by his devoted wife, Sally; his son, David Allen (Lacy); grandsons Jack and Patrick; sister, Betty Mahoney (Vick); brother, Ted Grace (Sue) and countless friends and extended family that will miss him dearly.
John will be remembered for his keen intellect and the gentle heart he shared with his friends and loved ones. He touched the lives of many and leaves a legacy of kindness and compassion.
A memorial service will be held at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 11122 Midway Road in Dallas, Texas on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 at 3:00 P.M. with a celebration of life reception to follow at the Dallas Country Club. Graveside services will be held Saturday, June 21, 2025 at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Oak Ridge, Louisiana at 11:00 A.M. under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Monroe.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Faith Presbyterian Hospice or the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in John’s memory.
