John Cruz Salas, 78, Sterlington La resident, passed away on June 9, 2017. He was born February 16, 1939 at US Naval Hospital, Guam, Marianas Islands, to Facundo and Engracia Salas.
He completed high school on Hawaii before coming to the main land where he studied culinary arts in Berkeley, California. He worked as General Manager for El Pollino Restaurant chain which brought him to Louisiana. He was a chef at The Chateau Restaurant for over 20 years before retiring. There hemade many friends whom he treasured the rest of his life.
Survivors include his children Roger Miller, Linda Carrell, Randy Miller, Sarah Salas Furrer, Richard DeLaGarza, JJ Salas, Tony Salas, Theresa Salas, Jason Salas, Michael Salas, Denise McGuire, Gracie Salas; 19 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and a number of beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Edith Curbow Salas, his parents and siblings, Agapito, Pedro, Vicenta (Baby), Brigida, Josepha (Pei) and Antonio.
Private family service will be graveside at Bayou Meto Cemetery in Arkansas on Sunday, June 18 at 11am.
