Long time Ruston resident, Joanna Steed, passed away on Friday evening, February 7, 2014 at her home surrounded by family. Visitation will be held 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at Trinity United Methodist Church, with the funeral service at 11:00 A.M. Interment will follow at Pines Memorial Gardens in Ruston under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston.Joanna was born in La Grange, GA on May 9, 1930. She is preceded in death by her parents, T.H. and Thelma Holeman, and husband William Vansant Steed. She is survived by her sister, Reba Holeman Hardy of Augusta, GA; son William Vansant (Bill) Steed, Jr. and wife Kathy of Ruston, LA; son Douglas Alan Steed and wife Lynda of Choudrant, LA; daughter Nancy Steed McIntyre and husband Bill of Ruston, LA; daughter Janice Steed Melancon and husband Curtis of Benton, LA; son John Blake Steed and wife Laura of Bossier City, LA; grandchildren Shannon Steed Sigler and husband Matt; Will Steed and wife Mindy; Joanna McIntyre Dugdale and husband Bart; Emily Steed Pullin and husband Matt; Matt Steed and wife Katie; Andy McIntyre and wife Michelle; Maggie Melancon; Daniel Steed; Kyle, Claire and Ryan Steed. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren.Joanna grew up in Atlanta, GA and graduated from Russell High School and Bessie Tift College with a degree in home economics. She was married to Bill for 57 years before his death in 2007. They moved their family to Ruston from Savannah, GA in 1965, where Joanna took pleasure in being a stay-at-home mother to her five children. She was an avid quilter and also sewed and smocked clothes for her children and grandchildren. For many years, Joanna taught children‚ Sunday school, enjoyed gardening, reading, cooking and shopping for antiques. She treasured the friendships in her bridge group and Junior Guild. Joanna held the time spent with her family to be most important.
