Joan Evelyn Harper was born on September 24, 1938 in New York, NY. She passed into the arms of Jesus on August 28, 2013 at her home in West Monroe, LA. Visitation will be Friday, August 30 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Memorial service will be Saturday, August 31 at 10:00 a.m. officiated by Bro. Greg Clark. Both will be held at Cedar Crest Baptist Church in West Monroe. Interment will be in Westbury, NY at a later date. Joan was the daughter of Stephen and Agnes Liga of New York, NY. Joan made her home in West Monroe in 1962. She is survived by daughter Lisa Harper Sadler of Choudrant and son Troy S. Harper and wife, Crystal of West Monroe and two grandsons Tyler Sadler and Matthew Harper. She is survived by two brothers, Stephen A. Liga of East Stroudsburg, PA and Kenny Liga and wife, Chiaki of Long Island, NY. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Joan was a dedicated employee of Brookshire's Grocery and retired after 27 years. She loved her cats and talking about them, gardening and visiting with friends. Joan made new friends anywhere she went. She was a member of Cedar Crest Baptist Church. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Dr. Barron and Oncology Associates staff, La Hospice, and Jill Williams for their care and compassion during Joan's lengthy illness. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
