Jimmy was born on June 9, 1942, in Detroit, Michigan and passed away surrounded by family on February 11, 2025, in West Monroe. Jimmy, as he was known by many, grew up in Ruston, LA. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner. His love of the outdoors and of football was apparent at a very young age. He played football at Ruston High School for the legendary Hoss Garrett, who remained a mentor and friend throughout his adult life. He was so proud to be a Bearcat and was always a loyal supporter. Jimmy was a mentor himself to many young men, passing on all his knowledge and the love of football as he coached little league football.
After high school, Jimmy joined the United States Navy. He served 8 years during the Vietnam War. After serving our great nation, he returned home and settled in West Monroe where he met his loving wife of 54 years, Nancy. Jimmy went to work at what was called Olinkraft or Graphic Packaging where he earned the nick name “Windy”. He worked there for 37 years before retiring to pursue his many hobbies.
When Jimmy was not working, he was always keeping himself busy outdoors and involved some kind of animal from horses, cows, goats, pigs and emus. His last endeavor was beekeeping. At one time he had several hundred hives throughout Northeast Louisiana. Jimmy shared not only his knowledge of bees but also the honey and BBQ sauce, which he named after his first born grandson, Jonah. Jimmy always gave more away then he ever sold. He gave many presentations about bees to Elementary Schools, leaving a lasting impression as “the honey man”. And when he wasn’t doing that he played Santa Claus at Christmas time for several years. Jimmy loved making people happy, especially the kids.
Jimmy also had a love for his community and was involved with the Police Jury and the School Board where he served on the site selection committee for West Ouachita High School and Calhoun Middle School. If you knew Jimmy Wall you knew he loved people, loved giving and enjoying life at whatever he was doing at the time. Most of all, Jimmy loved his family. When times got tough, Pop would say, “I talked to the Lord this morning and everything is going to be alright.” And if he went on a mission he got an answer, maybe not the one he wanted but he got one.
One of the most important things from his legendary adventures were the many lifelong friends he and Nancy made along the way. Jimmy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be dearly missed by all that knew him.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, R.W. and Allene Wall; sisters, Mary Elizabeth Emmons and Ethel Willett.
Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Nancy Wall; sons, Justin Wall and wife Shelley, Jan Michael Wall, Quinn Wall and wife Kelli; grandchildren, Jonah Wall and wife Hanna, Mylena Wall, Wesson Wall, Wyatt Wall and Josie Newman; brother, Jerry Wall and wife Karen; a slew of nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family.
