Funeral services for Jimmy Johnston 77, of West Monroe will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, September 18, 2012 in the chapel of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe. Rev. Bill Lovett and Rev. Robin Roark will be officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe. Jimmy was born May 20, 1935 in Monroe, LA and passed away September 13, 2012 at Ridgecrest Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by parents, Clarence B and Vera Mae Fletcher Johnston. Jimmy was a loyal and celebrated employee of Graphic Packaging Paper Company for 58 years and a lifelong member of Local #364 United Steel Workers Union. He loved being a papermaker and took great pride in every facet of his job. As a boy he developed a love for raising livestock and a keen sense of animal husbandry from his dad Clarence. Together they raised cattle, hogs, horses and in later years Jimmy raised donkeys, zebras, and Llama. Jimmy's Z-Bar Ranch in Chatham, LA was known far and wide for the expert breeding and sales of the hybrid “ZeeDonk” Breed, crossbreeding a zebra with a donkey. People would often stop by to look at Jimmy's amazing livestock and he would welcome them and share with his wealth of knowledge about his animals. He is survived by his sons; Jerry Johnston and wife Karen of Franklin, TN, Jody Johnston and wife Judy of West Monroe, LA; brothers; Billy Johnston and wife Irene of Slidell, LA, Cliff Johnston and wife Novis of Emory, TX; grandsons; Clint Johnston and wife Denaira and Jaren Johnston and fiancé Evyn Mustoe; granddaughters; Ashley Johnston and Texa Rae Johnston; great-grandchildren; Josie and Madden Johnston; step-sons; Kenny Lovelady and wife Melanie of Eros, LA, Terry Hamilton and wife Shelly of West Monroe, LA; step-grandchildren Brittney Hamilton, Tristen Lovelady, Ryder and Hattie Hamilton. The sons would like to express their extreme gratitude to Dr. Michael McCormick, Dr. Scott Barron and Dr. Stephanie Long, The Rosemont Assisted Living Community Staff, Betty Tappen, caregiver and Hospice Compassus for the loving care provided to their dad. A special thank you is extended to Shirley Allen for all of your dedication, love and support you have shared with dad's care and the Johnston family. Visitation will be held Monday from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe.

So sorry for your loss. Your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

We were fortunate to know Mr.Jimmy for years and loved him like family. He would stop by our store for coffee half a cupand cigars and talk about his animals or ask about our little girl, and would usually buy everyone a coke : His sunny yellow truck truly fit his bright personality... he was a great friend and we will miss him so much. Love and prayers to his wonderful family.

Jody, I am sorry to hear about the passing of your Dad. I pray that God gives you and your family strength and courage. Jimmy was a man with a huge heart. As a little girl, I remember stopping by to see Jimmy with my Dad and they would stand by the fence and talk for hours. He had a huge heart and was a much loved man. As I read the obituary, I couldn't help but think of my Clint, as your Clint was named. Clint thought the world of you, Jimmy and Clarence. May you find peace Jody. Love, Tina and Mom Mrs. Walker

We are very sorry about your family's loss and glad that we had the the pleasure to meet him. I went and visited Mr. Jimmy once after we had signed the papers to take him a photo albumn I found in the bunkhouse. We both enjoyed looking at it and talking about his experiences raising his z-donks. I hope he would be proud of the changes we have made at the farm and regret he didnt get to come visit. Please know any of the family is welcome to stop by anytime and if y'all need anything we can help with, please let us know.

Kenny and Terry, I know you and your families are just heartbroken over the loss of Mr. Jimmy. I never saw him that he didn't have a smile on his face and a kind word to say. He also always had such wonderful things to say about you and your children. I am so sorry for your loss and I will continue to lift your families up in prayer as you mourn the loss of this kind and generous man.

Terry & Kenny, Jimmy was one of a kind & special to so many. I know you both loved him very much. We are praying for your families thru this difficult time.

I babysitted Jimmy's two little sons years ago. He was always laughing.A well liked person.Rest in peace Jimmy.

Jimmy was a great loving person who always had a smile and wave for everyone who passed by him. He was an inspiration to all the young guys at the mill and a great example to everyone he met. Him and his smile and wave will be missed by all who new him. Rest in peace Jimmy you will be missed and may God bless you and your family.
