Jimmie Gayle McPherson Ashley, 79, of Sterlington, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2025, surrounded by family. She was born on August 18, 1945, in Transylvania, Louisiana, to Marshall and Thula Chappell.

“Ms. Jimmie” was respected by her peers as one of the best nurses, always the “nurse mom” when others needed help. Her professionalism and compassion set the standard for others. After retiring, she focused on providing end-of-life care for her husband, siblings, in-laws, and others. Her children and grandchildren remember her for the deep love and lessons she taught them, showing how to love and accept others, even when it was difficult. Later in life, Jimmie taught her husband, Buddy, how to love again. Jimmie was preceded in death by her first husband, Marlon McPherson; daughter, Kim Patrick; granddaughter, Amber McPherson; and nine brothers and sisters and their spouses, Voree Walters (Leland), Cloteal Harris Ezell (Rex), Billy Jean Chappell (Eva, Mae), Norman Chappell (Carol, Linda), Betty-Zane McConnell (Bill), Syble Magee (Carl), Sonya Elizabeth Chappell, Wanda-Ann Swilley (James), and Carolyn Johns Kennedy (Barney).

Jimmie is survived by her loving husband, Buddy Ashley; son, Marlon (Marty) McPherson Jr. and his wife Sonya; daughter, Patti Zeigler and her husband Tim. She was a proud grandmother to Heath (Christy), Leanne, Paxton, Addison (Devin), Reed (Camryn), Sydni (Garrett), and Colton, and a beloved great-grandmother to Cade, Marlonya, Kai, Sarah, Jayden, Nevaeh, and Emerson. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews as well as extended family and friends.

Jimmie’s impact will never be forgotten by those who loved her.

A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, April 5, 2025 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in West Monroe.  Bro. Larry Linson will officiate.  A private family burial will follow at 1:00 P.M. at Herringville Baptist Church Cemetery in Epps, Louisiana under the care and direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Homes, West Monroe.  A visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Friday, April 4, 2025 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home, West Monroe and from 9:00 A.M. until time of service Saturday.

Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, Heath McPherson, Paxton Zeigler, Reed Zeigler, Colton Zeigler, Devin Locke and Garrett Deal.
