Funeral services for James “Jim” D. Brasher, Jr., 81, will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Cedar Crest Baptist Church in West Monroe, Louisiana. Officiating will be Dr. Greg Clark, Chief Matecki Nelson and Paul Crew. Interment will follow at Kilpatrick Serenity Gardens Mausoleum in West Monroe, Louisiana, under the care and direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Homes, West Monroe. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Friday, September 6, 2024, at Cedar Crest Baptist Church in West Monroe.
Jim was born on July 27, 1943 in Monroe, Louisiana and passed away on September 2, 2024 in West Monroe, Louisiana. Jim retired as a District Chief with the Ouachita Parish Fire Department after 29 years of service. He received multiple awards and commendations for his service during that time. After graduating from Neville High School, Jim was a gymnast at Northeast Louisiana State College. It was there he met and then married, Jerryce Womack. They were married for 55 years. Jim and Jerryce had season tickets to West Monroe High School football for over 40 yrs, where they watched their sons and grandsons play. He especially loved tailgating before games and enjoyed the eating and fellowship with family and friends. Jim enjoyed following his grandchildren in all their extra curricular activities where he was known by everyone as “BOP”. He also loved going to the beach with his family. Jim and Jerryce enjoyed many trips together with friends, including their Caribbean cruise, trip to Hawaii, and their 2 trips to Alaska. They also enjoyed their trips to Branson with their family and friends. Jim and Jerryce loved hosting their annual New Year’s Eve gumbo party for almost 15 years. Jim was a member of Cedar Crest Baptist Church where he enjoyed attending his D-Life Group and making coffee for the group each Sunday morning. Jim and Jerryce also loved participating in the monthly supper club gatherings. Jim was also a longtime member of the Chuter James Hunting Club. Jim was preceded in death by his wife Jerryce Brasher; and parents James D. Brasher., Sr. and Edna Brasher.
Jim is survived by his sons, Chris Brasher and wife Melinda, Dusty Brasher and wife Amanda, Kevin Brasher and wife Kendra; grandchildren, Cale Brasher, Kelsey Brasher, Austin Brasher, Cole Brasher, Cooper Brasher and wife Emily, Colton Brasher; great-grandchildren, Hazelyn Brasher and Corbin Albritton; brother, Ronnie Brasher and wife Mat; numerous nieces and nephews; along with other cherished family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Cale Brasher, Austin Brasher, Kelsey Brasher, Cole Brasher, Cooper Brasher, Colton Brasher and Hazelyn Brasher.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Ouachita Parish Firefighters, Cranford Sunday School Class and the Supper Club.
