Jessie Axton, a loving wife, mother, Mammaw, and sister, passed away unexpectedly on March 2, 2021.
Jessie’s smile was made of sunshine and her heart was solid gold. Her nurturing ways made her the perfect confidant for all of life’s problems. Even if she did not have the answers, she could hug away all your worries. She loved incomparably, gave generously, and she never stopped praying for those around her. Her family was her pride and joy, her greatest treasure. She embraced every moment with them and instilled in them values that will last a lifetime.
Jessie spent 54 years devoted to the love of her life, R.L. Axton, Sr. They loved each other unconditionally, despite everything that came their way. They built a marriage that was an inspiration to all who knew them.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, R.L. Axton, Sr.; children: R.L. Axton, Jr.(significant other, Belinda Dempsey), Lynette Axton (fiancé, Mark Key), and Stacy Hurst (husband, Mike); Grandchildren: Ricky Axton (wife, Shara), Scottie Chandler (fiancé, Ceira Weir), Matthew Key (fiancé, Aleah Frazier), Rayne Axton, and Erin Winborne (husband, Chad); Great Grandchildren: Landon, Layton, and Lanie Axton, Scott Chandler, Kayslee Bennett-Chandler, Colson Key, Haven Owen, and Milliann Winborne; siblings: Jim Ledford, Jackie Ledford (wife, Tammy), Danny Ledford (wife, Patsy), Bobby Ledford (significant other, Barbara Church), Jerry Ledford (wife, Sharon), Judy Foster (husband, Bill), and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Geneva Ledford, sisters, Wanda Wood, Shirley Bowers, and Frances Gatheright, and brother, Bill Ledford.
A memorial service will be held at Life Church.LA in Ruston, Louisiana on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at 10:00 AM, under the directions of Kilpatrick Funeral Home Ruston. We ask that you dress casually, as this is what Jessie would have wanted.
