Services celebrating the life of Jesse DeKalb McDonald, age 74, will be held at 3:00 P.M., Friday, August 25, 2006 at Covenant Presbyterian Church Monroe. Officiating will be Reverend Bruce MacKenzie Rux. Interment will follow at Monroe Memorial Park under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe. Born in Eldorado, Arkansas on September 14, 1931, the only child of the late DeKalb Lafayette McDonald and Melba Grafton McDonald, Mr. McDonald died at his home on Wednesday, August 23, 2006, having fought a courageous battle with Lewy Body disease. Mr. McDonald spent his childhood in Bernice, Louisiana. He was brought up in the admonition of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ by his dear grandmother, the late Fannie Sansing Grafton and by his aunt and uncle, Agnes and George Grafton. He graduated from Jefferson Military College in Washington, Mississippi and entered Louisiana State University where he was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. He served his country for three years in the United States Coast Guard during the Korean War prior to entering LSU Law School. Mr. McDonald was editor and later managing editor of the Louisiana Law Review. Upon completing law school, Mr. McDonald joined the law firm of Hudson, Potts and Bernstein. During the time he practiced law, Mr. McDonald was a member and senior officer of the Council of Louisiana State Institute, an organization that writes and revises proposed legislation for the state. He was Chairman of the Committee that wrote what is now the Louisiana Product Liability Act. For two years, Mr. McDonald was the Representative of the Institute to the Board of Governors of the Louisiana State Bar Association. In 2001, he retired from HP&B after forty years of the practice of law. Mr. McDonald was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church where he taught an adult Sunday school class for fifteen years and was an Elder and a member of the Board of Trustees. In 1964, he was Moderator of the Red River Presbytery. He was a past president of the North Monroe Lions Club. Mr. McDonald is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-one years, Carol Emerson McDonald and three daughters, Molly McDonald Hoebeke and her husband Robert Paul Hoebeke of Plano, TX, Dee McDonald Ledbetter and her husband Dr. John Land Ledbetter of Monroe, Ainslee McDonald Boyce and her husband Beaumont Stinnett Boyce of Amarillo, TX, his nine grandchildren, Shelby Young Hoebeke, Whitney Emerson Hoebeke, Carol-Sidney Curtis Boyce, Beaumont Stinnett Boyce, Jr., McDonald Robinson Ledbetter, Land Emerson Ledbetter, Rachel Mignon Ledbetter, George Lindsey Boyce and Mary-Claire Masterson Boyce. Pallbearers will be his first cousins, Dr. Warren Donovan Grafton and Dr. George Hoye Grafton and his four grandsons, Beaumont Stinnett Boyce, Jr., McDonald Robinson Ledbetter, Land Emerson Ledbetter, and George Lindsey Boyce. Honorary pallbearers will be William E. Crawford, William M. Davenport, Dr. Henry H. Davis, James. F. Fouts, Dr. Doyle R. Hamilton and Roy N. ¨Woody Ledbetter, Alymer E. Montgomery, Charles A. Petrus, Dr. A. Dent Tisdale and the senior partners of Hudson, Potts and Bernstein Attorneys. Visitation will be 5:00 7:00 P.M., Thursday evening, August 24, 2006 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe.
