Jean graduated from Linville High School in 1964 and NLU in 1967 with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Education, and later earned a Master of Education from NLU.
Jean is the daughter of John Fate Hollis and Heloise Wheeler Hollis. She married Larry Bennett Taylor in 1967 and together they had two sons: Judd Bennett Taylor (Michele) and Lee Hollis Taylor (Nikki). Jeannie has 4 granddaughters: Abigail Taylor VandeGevel (Tristan), Shelby Taylor Young (Micah), Maddie Grace Taylor, and Landrie Kate Taylor. Her great-grandchildren are Waylon Dutch VandeGevel, Miles Bennett VandeGevel, and Shepherd Kent Young (due in October). She leaves behind a twin brother, Jimmy Hollis (Theresa); brothers-in-law Ricky Taylor (Debbie) and Bill Mitchell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, John Hollis and his wife, Margaret; and sister, Louise Mitchell.
She taught at Linville High School for 35 years, the last several of which in the Little Red Schoolhouse where she influenced the lives of hundreds of students. She loved her family beyond measure and was often seen at the ballpark or gymnasium cheering on her granddaughters and countless others of her “kids.” She was an avid gardener who loved to share her produce with others and seamstress who clothed many generations. She loved watching things grow and it might be a child’s mind, a rose, or a row of squash. She spread joy and light wherever she went and will be missed by so many as we try to carry on her legacy of love.
Pallbearers will be Matt McPhearson, Lee Brantley, Wayne Feazel, Elze Culpepper, Alan Chance, and Robert (Bo) Carter. Honorary Pallbearers will be The Men of Fairview Church of Christ LLC.
