Kathryn Janell Jones Goss of Dallas left this earthly realm for her heavenly home on November 23, 2013. She was surrounded by her loving family as she took her last breaths after too many years of pain and ill health. Janell was born May 29, 1936 in Arcadia, LA, the youngest of three daughters born to Grady E. and Ethel Peevy Jones, both natives of Jackson Parish, LA. The Jones family moved to Ruston, LA in 1938 when her father joined the math faculty at LA Tech University, a position he held for 22 years. Janell married young, and was a mother at an early age. She returned to her studies at LA State University once her children were in school. She graduated magna cum laude in 1973, achieving a rank of 12th in a class of almost 2, 100 graduates. Janell was a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Phi Lambda Pi, and AAUW. She spent hours researching family history, traveling to cemeteries in Georgia, Alabama and Louisiana to gather genealogical information. Janell and her daughters moved to Dallas in 1973 when she was hired by the Southern Region office of Xerox Corp. She held various supervisory positions there. In 1988 she was hired by JC Penney as an assistant buyer where she worked until chronic health issues forced her to take early retirement. Janell was passionate about sports, never missing a Texas Rangers game on TV, and the LSU Tiger football season was an autumn highlight for her. Words cannot describe the love she had for her family. The joy she felt while in attendance at family gatherings was immeasurable. She enjoyed their company and accomplishments. Janell is survived by her daughters, SherilynAdam Short of Baton Rouge, LA;Sharla Peter Stack of Dallas, TX; and her son, Frederick Stuart Goss of Warren, PA. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Bailey Short, Emily Short, Daniel Stack, Alex Stack, Evan Stack, Sean Goss and Andrew Amy Goss, two great granddaughters, Olivia and Alyssa Goss, brother-in-law John Baker Barr. Also mourning her passing are nieces and nephews including Eric Glenda Stratton, Lynda John Allen, Susan Mike Merritt, Baker Tookie Barr, Ann Joey Allen, Sheila Bruce Spillers and Bobby Jung Im Ferguson. Her constant feline companion was Winston, whom she dearly loved. Janell was preceded in death by her parents, Grady and Ethel Jones, and her sisters, Leta Jones Stratton John and Edith Jones Barr John Services will be held at 12 PM November 30, 2013 at First Baptist Church in Ruston, Louisiana, with Kilpatrick Funeral Home officiating.
