James Wilburn EvansMemorial services for James W. Evans will be held Saturday, February 14, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the Ruston Presbyterian Church, under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston. James W. Evans was born in Ruston on January 27, 1924 and went to his eternal home on February 1, 2015. He was the son of Winnie D. Smith Evans and J. Wilburn Evans.James attended the Louisiana Tech Lab School through high school and was part of the last graduating class. In 1943 he graduated from Louisiana Polytechnic Institute, now known as Louisiana Tech University, with a bachelor degree in electrical engineering. Upon graduation, James commenced working for the Naval Research Lab in Washington, DC. He received a direct commission in the U.S Navy and served in the Pacific during the final months of World War II. He joined the CAA now known as the FAA, in 1943. In 1955 he left government service and joined Hazeltine Corporation, an electronics firm on Long Island. There he held various positions including Vice President and was a director on the corporate board. In 1974 he was selected by Hazeltine to attend Harvard Business School where he completed the Advanced Management Program. James retired from Hazeltine in 1987 and returned to Ruston in 1989.James was a life-long Presbyterian, who served in several capacities in both the First Presbyterian Church of Oyster Bay, NY, and the Presbyterian Church of Ruston. He was active in many businesses and civic associations on Long Island including the New York Business Association, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and the Long Island Philharmonic Board. In Ruston, he was active in Kiwanis and served on the boards of the Lincoln Parish Museum and the Louisiana Tech Foundation.He is survived by Eileen P. Evans his wife of almost sixty-eight years and his son James W. Evans, Jr both of Ruston. Planned memorials may be made to the Ruston Presbyterian Church, 212 N.
