James Michael Sykes from Monroe, Louisiana was born February 3, 2006 to Tim and Nikki Sykes, brother Matthew Sykes and fur-sister Mocha.

James was taken to his heavenly home on February 8, 2023. A service to remember James and celebrate his life will be held Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at North Monroe Baptist Church under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home, Monroe. Bro. Warren Eckhart will lead the service. Visitation for friends will begin at 1:00 P.M. at the church.

James was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother Patsy Williams, paternal great grandparents Thomas and Mary Sykes, maternal great grandparents Louis and Ramona Brown, and Austin and Aynsley Clifford.

In addition to his parents, Tim and Nikki Sykes and his brother, Matthew, James is survived by his grandparents Larry and Carolyn Sykes, Dale Williams and Billy and Lynn Brown. He will be missed by his aunts and uncles; Austin (Caitlan), Shelly (Jorge), Megan, Larry (Ashley), Lance (Emily), Lavena (Jody), Bonnie (Chris) and J.R. Hale.

James has an abundance of cousins, multitudes of friends and extended family who loved him deeply and will mourn his loss greatly.

James loved life and adventure. He was a junior at Sterlington High School where he participated in discus. James loved hunting, fishing, cowboy action shooting, archery, motorcycles, building or fixing anything. Recently he came to love playing pickle ball. Most of all James loved all his family, church family and friends.

To know James, was to love James. With his contagious smile, love for people and infectious laughter, he never met a stranger.

James was truly one of a kind. I'll miss him popping in to chat (or play a prank) in my classroom everyday.

James was an amazing young man and I am so glad that Vada and Olly had the blessing of knowing and spending time with him. He was always so sweet and brought life to everything he did. He will be so greatly missed by all who new him. I will be praying for your family continuously for strength and comfort.

I can’t begin to imagine the pain of losing a son. I am so sorry. James was an incredible best friend to my son. I loved getting his mid day texts filled with the goofiest of memes and updates on he and Ethan’s day. It was James I called when I couldn’t find Ethan. It was James who brightened everyone’s days. It was James who sported out with fashion surprises like no one else could. It was always laid back James assuring me not to worry because he would keep the boys behaving. I sure loved James and miss him deeply already. Keep smiling James! See ya later.

I’m so sorry for what has happened to yalls beautiful angel y’all blessed us all with James he was the biggest inspiration and influence on everyone he always was happy and joyful and never down. He brought me up as a person and I’m so thankful I could call him brother/ best friend and ofc bubba. He will be missed and loved for ever. Love you James❤️?️

We are sorry for the loss of your precious son. Please know that you have so many people holding your family up in prayer and will continue to do so.

One of the most genuine and respectful young men I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. I will miss seeing his smiling face every Thursday when I make my weekly stop in his dad’s shop. He was always excited to see what new tools and apparel we had on the truck. Such a great kid.

Tim and family. So incredibly sad. My heart goes out to you. I can’t imagine but I can pray for your comfort.

James was my goofiest and most genuinely joyful friend. His smile and laughter was contagious, and there was never a moment he wasn’t trying to make you smile. I will always remember our track season mems, us trading life updates in Spanish, and me trying to get you to tell me all your tea. We all love him and miss him so much. Thank you James for all the amazing memories I have with you and for being a great friend to me. I’ll see you again one day buddy.
