Funeral services for James Joel “Jim” Spillers will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, May 19, 2025 in the chapel of Kilpatrick Funeral Homes in West Monroe. Pastor Jerry Wayne Hendrixson will officiate. Interment will follow at Chatham Cemetery in Chatham, Louisiana. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., Sunday, May 18, 2025 at the funeral home.
Jim was born September 30, 1944 in Yakima, Washington and passed away on May 15, 2025 at the Northeast Louisiana Veteran’s Home in Monroe. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, a United States Army Veteran and he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Jim proudly served his country in Vietnam. He was a graduate of Chatham High School and Louisiana Tech University, a former mayor of Chatham, and an independent accountant. Jim was Rita’s music “roadie” and the biggest supporter of his kids and grandkids. He was known for his homemade fried pies and ice cream and he enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his father, George Thomas “GT” Spillers; mother, Minnie Tippen Spillers Melton “Minnie Ma”; sister, Martha Sue Chambless; and brother-in-law, Hyrum Chambless.
Jim is survived by his wife, Rita Robinson Spillers; son, Ryan Spillers and wife Linda; daughter, Erin Rogers and husband Jason; grandchildren, Noah Spillers and wife Kassady, Luke Spillers and wife Gretchen, Mallory Franklin and husband Kerry, Daniel Rogers, Sarah Rogers; great-grandchild, Parker Franklin; brother, Thomas Delton Spillers; special family friends, Heather Yossett and Beverly Hubanks; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and other cherished family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Noah Spillers, Luke Spillers, Daniel Rogers, Kerry Franklin, Kenny Womack and Danny Robinson. Honorary pallbearers will be Ed Ridder, Tommy Tidwell, Troy Culp, Jimmie Spikes and Jerry Waggoner.
