Funeral services for Mr. James "Jim" A. Brister, 58, will be 2:30 P.M., Sunday, October 15, 2006 at Cedar Crest Baptist Church of West Monroe. Officiating will be Rev. Greg Clark. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Homes of West Monroe. Jim was born on April 10, 1948 in Winn Parish and passed away on October 12, 2006 in West Monroe. Survivors include his beloved wife of 26 years, Sandra Lewis Brister; daughters, Skye Brister and Lacey Brister; parents, Arshal Lee and Kathleen Calhoun Brister; brothers, Macky Brister and wife Dian and Tommy Brister and wife Kim all of West Monroe and numerous much loved nieces and nephews. Jim was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved being outdoors. He was a member of Tucker Town Hunting Club and a charter member of Caney Hunting Club. After graduating from Louisiana Tech University, Jim began working for Monroe Building and Loan and retired after 17 years of service. He enjoyed a second career as a supervisor with the State of Louisiana in probation and parole and continued to work until his illness would not allow. He was trained at the POST Academy as a Defensive Tactics instructor. After the terrorist attacks of 9/11, he worked with Homeland Security to train airport security around the country in security measures and tactics. Jim and his fellow parole officers were also first responders to evacuate prisoners in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. He was also a NRA firearms instructor. Jim retired from the Navy in 1997. He was a 32nd degree Mason. Pallbearers will be Terry Jones, Clay Crooks, Don Calhoun, Matthew Brister, Steve Fisher, Luke Lensing, Phillip Campbell and Richard Calhoun. Honorary pallbearers will be Tillman Givens, Greg Bridges, Harold Snowden, Jackie Norton, Robert Tietje and Carl Calhoun. Visitation will be 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., Saturday, October 14, 2006 at Cedar Crest Baptist Church in West Monroe and 1:30 P.M. until service time on Sunday. Jim's family extends grateful thanks to the many friends and prayer warriors for their loving support during this time. Memorials may be made to Cedar Crest Baptist Church Building Fund of West Monroe.
