James “Jim” Allen Turner, 61, of Ruston, Louisiana, passed away on January 12, 2025, surrounded by loving family and friends, after a long battle with glioblastoma.
A funeral service for Jim will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Cook Baptist Church in Ruston, Louisiana, in lieu of Temple Baptist Church due to sanctuary renovations. Officiating the Service will be Dr Reggie Bridges under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Homes of Ruston. Interment will be at Kilpatrick’s Memorial Gardens immediately following the funeral service. Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 14, 2025, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Cook Baptist Church.
Jim was born in Ruston, Louisiana, to Bob and Honor Jean Turner. He attended Ruston High School where he met the love of his life, Kay. After dating throughout high school, they married on March 3, 1984. Immediately after graduation, Jim joined the Ruston Fire Department where he served his community for 28 years. In addition to his employment with the fire department, Jim also worked part-time for Crawford Construction, where he enjoyed learning the construction trade. He took great pride and joy in being able to build the house in which he and Kay raised their two sons, Clay and Casey. In the winter of 2017, he also built their dream house on Lake Claiborne, where he incorporated some truly personal and unique touches. After working tirelessly on this home for 3 years, he and Kay enjoyed four sweet years in their home on the lake. Jim enjoyed the outdoors and loved to fish, hunt, or just be outside working on building projects.
Jim grew up at John Knox Presbyterian Church, but later joined Temple Baptist Church where he was an active member, worshipping and serving there for 34 years. Jim had a true heart for people and spent many hours helping others in his community.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Honor Jean Turner. He is survived by his wife, Kay; son Clay of New Orleans, Louisiana; son Casey, wife Haley, and grandsons, Samuel and Andrew of Choudrant, Louisiana; brothers Bill Turner (Maria) of Quitman, Louisiana; Paul Turner (Lori) of Goodrich, Michigan; Chuck Turner (Lisa) of Choudrant, Louisiana; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Woods, Kenny Ambrose, Chuck Turner, Dewayne Jordan, Ronald Taylor, Royce Norman, Tommy Ceaser, and Davey Crawford.
The Turner family wishes to express their sincere gratitude for the overwhelming support received from friends and family. We would also like to thank MD Anderson Cancer Center and Allegiance Hospice for their care during this difficult journey.
