James Jim Lewis Kilpatrick Funeral Home Ruston, LA James Jim Lewis of Ruston passed away peacefully at his home on January 29, 2012, surrounded by his family. He was a graduate of Neville High School and following his earning a B.S. degree in Business Administration from ULM, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps, obtaining the rank of Captain. While serving, he received a deferment to enroll in LSU Law School earning his LLB, JD in 1963, after receiving an honorable discharge from the Marines; Lewis taught business law at ULM for seven years. He entered private practice until 1990. During his “semi-retirement” he was a prosecutor in Grant and Winn parishes. He was a defense attorney in Ouachita Parish. He was admitted to practice before the US Court of Military Appeals, US District Court, US Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, Louisiana State Supreme Court, all Louisiana Appellate Courts, various Judicial District Bars Association, and the United States Bankruptcy Court. He had the rare honor of being the youngest staff legal officer admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court. His professional memberships included the National District Attorney Association, Board Member and Lecturer for Louisiana Assistant District Attorney Association, Board Member and Officer of the International Police Executives Symposium, American Judicature Society, Louisiana Trial Lawyers Associations and Louisiana Criminal Defense Association. Lewis was past president and a Paul Harris Fellow Recipient of the Monroe Rotary Club, past Distinguished President of the Monroe Sertoma Club, past president of the Ouachita Parish Community Action Program, ULM College of Business Alumni, Monroe Sheltered Workshop and Winn Parish Sheltered Workshop; He founded the Monroe Boys and Girls Club of American and served as its first president, he was also active in the Monroe Chamber of Commerce. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Moseley Perkins, step- father, Marion Perkins, and half –sister, Janet Perkins Mack. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Marilynn Crowley Lewis, and son: James Beauregard Lewis of Ruston, sister Kay Reiney and husband Keenen and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at 10:00 AM Saturday February 4, 2012 at Temple Baptist Church, with a memorial service at 11:00 AM.
