Funeral Services for Mr. James Edwin ‟Jimmy” Gray, 72, of Bernice, LA, will be held on Sunday, July 12, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. at Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel in Farmerville, LA. Officiating the service will be Bro. Brent Majeska, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and Jimmy’s son, Jason Thomas, member of Antioch Baptist Church. Visitation will be held beginning at 1:00 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow at Liberty Hill – Taylor Cemetery in Farmerville, LA.
Jimmy was former manager at Delta South Oil and Gas in Natchitoches, La., and worked at Ouachita Fertilizer in Monroe as a shipping dispatcher. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and had a love of taxidermy. He also was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving as a Nike Hercules Missile Spec 5 and was stationed in Fort Polk, La., Fort Sills Ok., Okinawa, Japan and Fort Hamilton, NJ.
James was born on July 26, 1947 in Miami, Florida, and passed away on July 9, 2020 in Bernice, LA. He is preceded in death by his parents, James Luther and Mary Estelle Gray.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather to his entire family and left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 31 years, Beverly Annette Gray of Bernice, LA; daughters, Kelly McCullin and husband Andy of Marion, LA; Kristy Roan and husband Andy of Farmerville, LA; Brittany Durr and husband Quentin of Ruston, LA; sons, Jason Thomas and wife Tammy of Farmerville, LA; and James David Gray of Raleigh, NC. James was lovingly known by his siblings as “Little Jimmy” and is also survived by sisters, Brenda Marks, Pat Scroggins, and Jenny Gray; brothers, Billy Gray and Rodney Gray; 10 Grandchildren, Chelsi, Anna, Madison, Katlin, Mathew, Noah, Thomas, Drew, Hannah and Holly; 5 Great -Grandchildren, Eli, Iris, Kimber, Cypris, and Elayna; and numerous nieces and nephews. He also was a father to a special niece, Kristy Gray Vienne, who he helped raise and loved liked a daughter.
Jimmy was an avid hunter, outdoorsman and literally a “jack of all trades”. He loved his huge man-cave where he could design and build all sorts of objects and keepsakes for his wife, kids and grandkids. He also spent his leisure time in his recliner with his 6+ fur-babies which he and Annette dearly loved as children.
Pallbearers will be Bennie Johns, Kevin Ellis, Donnie Walters, Gene Trahern, Luke Lee, Erich Boone, and honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Bruce, Scriven Taylor, Ed McKee, and Dixon Abell.
Memorials may be made to the Union Parish Humane Society.
