Funeral services for Irene Beebe Powell, 93, of West Monroe will be held at 12:00 Noon, Friday, April 4, 2025 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home, West Monroe. Reverend John Moden will officiate.  Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park, under the care and direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Homes, West Monroe. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service.

Mrs. Powell passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2025 following a short illness at her residence, surrounded by family. Irene, the third of seven siblings, was born September 10^th, 1931, in Oak Grove, Louisiana to William (Amon) Beebe and Ula Beatrice Smith Beebe.  Irene taught elementary school in the West Monroe and Oak Grove area for 25 years. She taught 1^st and 4^th grades for Fiske Union School in West Carroll Parish and Lenwil Elementary in Ouachita Parish.  A 1954 graduate of Louisiana Tech, she was pleased to engage with students and has enjoyed hearing of their successes in life with chance meetings around town.  Irene was a member of Eastside Church of God for 71 years and Green Chapel Church of God (Oak Grove) since birth. She was especially fond of God’s beauty expressed in flowers (roses and azaleas were her favorites) and tended a garden of roses, impatiens and pansies until her death.  She was also a member of the Bayou Oaks Garden Club in Monroe.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Elmer L Powell originally of Muncie, IN., her parents; brother, Haral L Beebe of Monroe; and two sisters, Reba Yates of Union, MS and Elaine McDonald of Phoenix, AZ.

Irene is survived by her children, Rodney Powell and wife Tamara of Rockton, IL., Richard Powell and wife Joy of West Monroe, Kim Stivers and husband Tommy of Calhoun, and Kerri Smith and husband Merrill of Tulsa, OK; grandchildren, Kristin Powell, Kellyn Powell and partner Geoff Graham, Sean Powell and wife Kristyn, Jody Powell, Ellie Hilton and husband Lance, Anna Flores and husband Matt, Colton (Ashlee), Chase and Cooper Smith; great-grandchildren, Lucy and Piper Graham, Burke and Braxton Powell, Evangeline Ruth Powell, Theodore, Elijah and Amelia Hilton; brothers, Harley Beebe of West Monroe, Louie Beebe and wife Pat of Downsville; sister, Lillian Teague of Calhoun; sister-in-law, Wanda Green of Muncie, IN; brother-in-law, William Moden of Oak Grove; numerous nieces and nephews; and other extended family and friends.

Serving as pallbearers will be Sean Powell, Lance Hilton, Matt Flores, Quinon Beebe, Burke Powell, Dr. Lukas Beebe and Dr. William Edward Beebe.

Honorary pallbearers will be Stanley Dupuy, Kristin Powell, Kellyn Powell, Jody Powell, Ellie Hilton and Anna Flores.
