Kim, Kerri and the rest of the Powell family: I was so saddened to hear about Mrs. Irene’s passing. I have so many fond memories of being at the Powell house when we were growing up. Your mom was so talented in so many things, and I learned a lot from her. Both she and your dad were such wonderful Christian examples for everyone. She was so loved by all who knew her, and will be dearly missed. I am praying for all of you.

My brother, Michael Kovac, and I send our deepest heartfelt sympathy to all of you children and grandchildren of our beloved fourth grade teacher, Miss Beebee. She was not only exceptional in her talents of teaching but she became a cherished friend. My brother and I were together this weekend and recalled so many of her acts of kindness as to us. She inspired us to learn and especially to enjoy reading. She would sit on my desk after lunch everyday and read us stories. She allowed me to help her in the candy store. Miss Beebee connected with each student right where they were. She loved us and nurtured us in our academic, emotional, and spiritual growth. We cherish these memories and our time together. May the God of comfort comfort and sustain all of you. Very sincerely. Connie Kovac Radovanovic.

Rodney, Ricky, Kim, and Kerri, My heart and prayers are with you and all of your family. I am so sorry for your great loss of your mother. May your many cherished memories bring smiles again, in time, when you think of her. The main qualities/characteristics that I remember about your mother from back in the day were her gentle kindness, warm smile, and positive spirit. The times that I was around her were always pleasant. You had wonderful parents, and I’m sure that it brings comfort to know that they are now reunited. All of you take care, Vicky

David Gunn left a message on April 2, 2025:
Irene was a truly remarkable person who made a lasting impact on the lives of those around her. Growing up in the neighborhood in the 60's, she was a constant presence in the lives of the Gunn Kids. Not only was she an exceptional cook who always had a steady supply of wholesome foods and snacks, but she also had a soothing tone that made her a gentle disciplinarian. Her friendship with my mother was also incredibly special. Alongside Mary Hall, Louise Gilley, Mrs. Harold, my mother, and a few others, Irene co-founded the Bayou Oaks Garden Club, a sorority that lasted for over 25 years. With her life partner Elmer, she raised four balanced children. Although Irene's time on earth may be done, her legacy will live on for generations to come through the memories of those who knew her.

To the family of Mrs. Irene Powell, I pray for peace and comfort. When I first met Mrs. Powell it was a joy. Her joy of life and family were apparent and her smile was gorgeous. We hear that a person's smile lights up a room, hers truly did! I am Kerri Smith's co-worker and enjoyed hearing about her mothers antics and love of outdoors. God bless you all, you had a lovely angel in your midst.
